520 | |a "Festivals have always been part of city life, but their relationship with their host cities has continually changed. With the rise of industrialization, they were largely considered peripheral to the course of urban affairs. Now they have become central to new ways of thinking about the challenges of economic and social change, as well as repositioning cities within competitive global networks. In this timely and thought-provoking book, John and Margaret Gold provide a reflective and evidence-based historical survey of the processes and actors involved, charting the ways that regular festivals have now become embedded in urban life and city planning. Beginning with David Garrick's rain-drenched Shakespearean Jubilee and ending with Sydney's flamboyant Mardi Gras celebrations, it encompasses the emergence and consolidation of city festivals. After a contextual historical survey that stretches from Antiquity to the late nineteenth century, there are detailed case studies of pioneering European arts festivals in their urban context: Venice's Biennale, the Salzburg Festival, the Cannes Film Festival and Edinburgh's International Festival. Ensuing chapters deal with the worldwide proliferation of arts festivals after 1950 and with the ever-increasing diversifycation of carnival celebrations, particularly through the actions of groups seeking to assert their identity. The conclusion draws together the book's key themes and sketches the future prospects for festival cities. Lavishly illustrated, and copiously researched, this book is essential reading not just for urban geographers, social historians and planners, but also for anyone interested in contemporary festival and events tourism, urban events strategy, urban regeneration regeneration, or simply building a fuller understanding of the relationship between culture, planning and the city"-- | ||

Lavishly illustrated, and copiously researched, this book is essential reading not just for urban geographers, social historians and planners, but also for anyone interested in contemporary festival and events tourism, urban events strategy, urban regeneration regeneration, or simply building a fuller understanding of the relationship between culture, planning and the city"-- Festivals Management Festivals Planning City planning City promotion Place marketing Festivals Management Case studies Festivals Planning Case studies City planning Case studies City promotion Case studies Place marketing Case studies (DE-588)4056723-0 (DE-627)106153919 (DE-576)209118741 Stadt gnd (DE-588)4033581-1 (DE-627)106256629 (DE-576)209002697 Kulturpolitik gnd (DE-588)4154198-4 (DE-627)105525200 (DE-576)209809361 Festival gnd (DE-588)4204973-8 (DE-627)105139254 (DE-576)210165766 Konzeption gnd (DE-588)4040364-6 (DE-627)106223844 (DE-576)209039698 Motivation gnd (DE-588)4056754-0 (DE-627)106153811 (DE-576)209118857 Stadtplanung gnd (DE-588)4209283-8 (DE-627)104353201 (DE-576)210191112 Einflussgröße gnd (DE-588)4161990-0 (DE-627)105465747 (DE-576)209870117 Interesse gnd (DE-588)4323345-4 (DE-627)12827574X (DE-576)211244414 Soziokultureller Faktor gnd (DE-588)4195664-3 (DE-627)105210145 (DE-576)210102632 Funktion gnd (DE-588)4284936-6 (DE-627)104319569 (DE-576)210795735 Potenzial gnd (DE-588)4037278-9 (DE-627)104767707 (DE-576)209023279 Management gnd (DE-588)4037589-4 (DE-627)104364246 (DE-576)209025417 Marketing gnd ARCHITECTURE / Landscape ARCHITECTURE / Urban & Land Use Planning SOCIAL SCIENCE / Popular Culture (DE-588)4015701-5 (DE-627)104289007 (DE-576)208913092 Europa gnd (DE-588)1135962553 (DE-627)890988382 (DE-576)490197698 Erde gnd Gold, Margaret M. verfasserin (DE-588)188374868 (DE-627)699304121 (DE-576)135247071 aut 9780415486552 hardback 9780415486569 paperback Erscheint auch als Druck-Ausgabe Gold, John R., 1949 - Festival cities London : Routledge, 2020 xii, 324 Seiten (DE-627)1736755641 9780415486569 9780415486552 https://doi.org/10.4324/9781003130802 Resolving-System lizenzpflichtig https://www.taylorfrancis.com/books/9781003130802 X:TFG Verlag lizenzpflichtig GBV-7-TFC-HCU GBV-7-TFC-SBB ZDB-7-TFC GBV-7-TFC-HCU2 GBV-7-TFC-LUEN GBV_ILN_11 ISIL_DE-1a SYSFLAG_1 GBV_KXP GBV_ILN_370 ISIL_DE-1373 GBV_ILN_2011 ISIL_DE-16 GBV_ILN_2040 ISIL_DE-212 GBV_ILN_2470 ISIL_DE-615 73.66 Spiele Feste Bewegungskultur Ethnologie SEPA (DE-627)181571250 74.72 Stadtplanung kommunale Planung SEPA (DE-627)106411039 15.08 Sozialgeschichte SEPA (DE-627)181571005 (DE-627)1756131384 RA Europa Europa fivr (DE-627)1756134707 RQ Weltweit Weltweit fivr (DE-627)1756136084 SG08 Kultur/Sprache/Kunst Gesellschaft Kultur/Sprache/Kunst fivs (DE-627)175613586X SF08 Regionen/Kommunen Staat Regionen/Kommunen fivs (DE-627)1756204764 (DE-615)6609917 Europa fivt (DE-627)1756180598 (DE-615)6608724 Global fivt (DE-627)1756153981 (DE-615)6606895 Stadt fivt (DE-627)1756243239 (DE-615)6606703 Kulturpolitik fivt (DE-627)1756180555 (DE-615)6606165 Förderung/Unterstützung fivt (DE-627)1756181586 (DE-615)6608448 Festspiele fivt (DE-627)1756187886 (DE-615)6604500 Konzeption fivt (DE-627)1756182949 (DE-615)6605235 Motivation fivt (DE-627)1756150869 (DE-615)6602765 Stadtplanung fivt (DE-627)1756242720 (DE-615)6604657 Wirtschaftliche Faktoren fivt (DE-627)175614480X (DE-615)6603027 Soziokulturelle Faktoren fivt (DE-627)1756238022 (DE-615)6605433 Funktion fivt (DE-627)1756240469 (DE-615)6604801 Potential fivt (DE-627)1756221073 (DE-615)6602170 Kulturprojekt fivt (DE-627)1756227187 (DE-615)6606225 Management (funktional) fivt (DE-627)1756158622 (DE-615)6602540 Marketing fivt (DE-627)1756197539 (DE-615)6601264 Beispielhafte Fälle fivt (DE-627)1756153531 (DE-615)6606675 Jahrhundert 19. fivt (DE-627)1756152446 (DE-615)6607787 Jahrhundert 20. fivt (DE-627)175615354X (DE-615)6606838 Jahrhundert 21. fivt (DE-627)1756208662 (DE-615)6609064 Film fiva (DE-627)1756205051 (DE-615)6609540 Musik fiva (DE-627)1756208271 (DE-615)6606905 Popkultur fiva (DE-627)1756206406 (DE-615)6609284 Theater fiva (DE-627)1756212074 (DE-615)6606451 Literatur fiva (DE-627)1756209626 (DE-615)6608131 Architektur fiva (DE-627)1756240221 (DE-615)6609445 Karneval fiva (DE-627)175614589X (DE-615)6603274 Stadtentwicklung fiva (DE-627)1756178704 (DE-615)6602961 Identität fiva (DE-627)1756154465 (DE-615)6606584 Identitätskonstruktion fiva (DE-627)1756217432 (DE-615)6600576 Tourismuspolitik fiva (DE-627)1756145369 (DE-615)6603648 Globalisierung fiva (DE-627)1756174628 (DE-615)6609262 Internationale Kulturbeziehungen fiva BO 045F 394.26 11 01 0001 3970014751 00 5:FIDXASLIN --%%-- s --%%-- Taylor&Francis Temporär im Bestand der Staatsbibliothek k 19-08-21 370 01 4370 4135330312 olr-ebook TF Vervielfältigungen (z.B. "Festivals have always been part of city life, but their relationship with their host cities has continually changed. Lavishly illustrated, and copiously researched, this book is essential reading not just for urban geographers, social historians and planners, but also for anyone interested in contemporary festival and events tourism, urban events strategy, urban regeneration regeneration, or simply building a fuller understanding of the relationship between culture, planning and the city"-- Festivals Management Festivals Planning City planning City promotion Place marketing Festivals Management Case studies Festivals Planning Case studies City planning Case studies City promotion Case studies Place marketing Case studies (DE-588)4056723-0 (DE-627)106153919 (DE-576)209118741 Stadt gnd (DE-588)4033581-1 (DE-627)106256629 (DE-576)209002697 Kulturpolitik gnd (DE-588)4154198-4 (DE-627)105525200 (DE-576)209809361 Festival gnd (DE-588)4204973-8 (DE-627)105139254 (DE-576)210165766 Konzeption gnd (DE-588)4040364-6 (DE-627)106223844 (DE-576)209039698 Motivation gnd (DE-588)4056754-0 (DE-627)106153811 (DE-576)209118857 Stadtplanung gnd (DE-588)4209283-8 (DE-627)104353201 (DE-576)210191112 Einflussgröße gnd (DE-588)4161990-0 (DE-627)105465747 (DE-576)209870117 Interesse gnd (DE-588)4323345-4 (DE-627)12827574X (DE-576)211244414 Soziokultureller Faktor gnd (DE-588)4195664-3 (DE-627)105210145 (DE-576)210102632 Funktion gnd (DE-588)4284936-6 (DE-627)104319569 (DE-576)210795735 Potenzial gnd (DE-588)4037278-9 (DE-627)104767707 (DE-576)209023279 Management gnd (DE-588)4037589-4 (DE-627)104364246 (DE-576)209025417 Marketing gnd ARCHITECTURE / Landscape ARCHITECTURE / Urban & Land Use Planning SOCIAL SCIENCE / Popular Culture (DE-588)4015701-5 (DE-627)104289007 (DE-576)208913092 Europa gnd (DE-588)1135962553 (DE-627)890988382 (DE-576)490197698 Erde gnd Gold, Margaret M. verfasserin (DE-588)188374868 (DE-627)699304121 (DE-576)135247071 aut 9780415486552 hardback 9780415486569 paperback Erscheint auch als Druck-Ausgabe Gold, John R., 1949 - Festival cities London : Routledge, 2020 xii, 324 Seiten (DE-627)1736755641 9780415486569 9780415486552 https://doi.org/10.4324/9781003130802 Resolving-System lizenzpflichtig https://www.taylorfrancis.com/books/9781003130802 X:TFG Verlag lizenzpflichtig GBV-7-TFC-HCU GBV-7-TFC-SBB ZDB-7-TFC GBV-7-TFC-HCU2 GBV-7-TFC-LUEN GBV_ILN_11 ISIL_DE-1a SYSFLAG_1 GBV_KXP GBV_ILN_370 ISIL_DE-1373 GBV_ILN_2011 ISIL_DE-16 GBV_ILN_2040 ISIL_DE-212 GBV_ILN_2470 ISIL_DE-615 73.66 Spiele Feste Bewegungskultur Ethnologie SEPA (DE-627)181571250 74.72 Stadtplanung kommunale Planung SEPA (DE-627)106411039 15.08 Sozialgeschichte SEPA (DE-627)181571005 (DE-627)1756131384 RA Europa Europa fivr (DE-627)1756134707 RQ Weltweit Weltweit fivr (DE-627)1756136084 SG08 Kultur/Sprache/Kunst Gesellschaft Kultur/Sprache/Kunst fivs (DE-627)175613586X SF08 Regionen/Kommunen Staat Regionen/Kommunen fivs (DE-627)1756204764 (DE-615)6609917 Europa fivt (DE-627)1756180598 (DE-615)6608724 Global fivt (DE-627)1756153981 (DE-615)6606895 Stadt fivt (DE-627)1756243239 (DE-615)6606703 Kulturpolitik fivt (DE-627)1756180555 (DE-615)6606165 Förderung/Unterstützung fivt (DE-627)1756181586 (DE-615)6608448 Festspiele fivt (DE-627)1756187886 (DE-615)6604500 Konzeption fivt (DE-627)1756182949 (DE-615)6605235 Motivation fivt (DE-627)1756150869 (DE-615)6602765 Stadtplanung fivt (DE-627)1756242720 (DE-615)6604657 Wirtschaftliche Faktoren fivt (DE-627)175614480X (DE-615)6603027 Soziokulturelle Faktoren fivt (DE-627)1756238022 (DE-615)6605433 Funktion fivt (DE-627)1756240469 (DE-615)6604801 Potential fivt (DE-627)1756221073 (DE-615)6602170 Kulturprojekt fivt (DE-627)1756227187 (DE-615)6606225 Management (funktional) fivt (DE-627)1756158622 (DE-615)6602540 Marketing fivt (DE-627)1756197539 (DE-615)6601264 Beispielhafte Fälle fivt (DE-627)1756153531 (DE-615)6606675 Jahrhundert 19. fivt (DE-627)1756152446 (DE-615)6607787 Jahrhundert 20. fivt (DE-627)175615354X (DE-615)6606838 Jahrhundert 21. fivt (DE-627)1756208662 (DE-615)6609064 Film fiva (DE-627)1756205051 (DE-615)6609540 Musik fiva (DE-627)1756208271 (DE-615)6606905 Popkultur fiva (DE-627)1756206406 (DE-615)6609284 Theater fiva (DE-627)1756212074 (DE-615)6606451 Literatur fiva (DE-627)1756209626 (DE-615)6608131 Architektur fiva (DE-627)1756240221 (DE-615)6609445 Karneval fiva (DE-627)175614589X (DE-615)6603274 Stadtentwicklung fiva (DE-627)1756178704 (DE-615)6602961 Identität fiva (DE-627)1756154465 (DE-615)6606584 Identitätskonstruktion fiva (DE-627)1756217432 (DE-615)6600576 Tourismuspolitik fiva (DE-627)1756145369 (DE-615)6603648 Globalisierung fiva (DE-627)1756174628 (DE-615)6609262 Internationale Kulturbeziehungen fiva BO 045F 394.26 11 01 0001 3970014751 00 5:FIDXASLIN --%%-- s --%%-- Taylor&Francis Temporär im Bestand der Staatsbibliothek k 19-08-21 370 01 4370 4135330312 olr-ebook TF Vervielfältigungen (z.B. "Festivals have always been part of city life, but their relationship with their host cities has continually changed. Lavishly illustrated, and copiously researched, this book is essential reading not just for urban geographers, social historians and planners, but also for anyone interested in contemporary festival and events tourism, urban events strategy, urban regeneration regeneration, or simply building a fuller understanding of the relationship between culture, planning and the city"-- Festivals Management Festivals Planning City planning City promotion Place marketing Festivals Management Case studies Festivals Planning Case studies City planning Case studies City promotion Case studies Place marketing Case studies (DE-588)4056723-0 (DE-627)106153919 (DE-576)209118741 Stadt gnd (DE-588)4033581-1 (DE-627)106256629 (DE-576)209002697 Kulturpolitik gnd (DE-588)4154198-4 (DE-627)105525200 (DE-576)209809361 Festival gnd (DE-588)4204973-8 (DE-627)105139254 (DE-576)210165766 Konzeption gnd (DE-588)4040364-6 (DE-627)106223844 (DE-576)209039698 Motivation gnd (DE-588)4056754-0 (DE-627)106153811 (DE-576)209118857 Stadtplanung gnd (DE-588)4209283-8 (DE-627)104353201 (DE-576)210191112 Einflussgröße gnd (DE-588)4161990-0 (DE-627)105465747 (DE-576)209870117 Interesse gnd (DE-588)4323345-4 (DE-627)12827574X (DE-576)211244414 Soziokultureller Faktor gnd (DE-588)4195664-3 (DE-627)105210145 (DE-576)210102632 Funktion gnd (DE-588)4284936-6 (DE-627)104319569 (DE-576)210795735 Potenzial gnd (DE-588)4037278-9 (DE-627)104767707 (DE-576)209023279 Management gnd (DE-588)4037589-4 (DE-627)104364246 (DE-576)209025417 Marketing gnd ARCHITECTURE / Landscape ARCHITECTURE / Urban & Land Use Planning SOCIAL SCIENCE / Popular Culture (DE-588)4015701-5 (DE-627)104289007 (DE-576)208913092 Europa gnd (DE-588)1135962553 (DE-627)890988382 (DE-576)490197698 Erde gnd Gold, Margaret M. verfasserin (DE-588)188374868 (DE-627)699304121 (DE-576)135247071 aut 9780415486552 hardback 9780415486569 paperback Erscheint auch als Druck-Ausgabe Gold, John R., 1949 - Festival cities London : Routledge, 2020 xii, 324 Seiten (DE-627)1736755641 9780415486569 9780415486552 https://doi.org/10.4324/9781003130802 Resolving-System lizenzpflichtig https://www.taylorfrancis.com/books/9781003130802 X:TFG Verlag lizenzpflichtig GBV-7-TFC-HCU GBV-7-TFC-SBB ZDB-7-TFC GBV-7-TFC-HCU2 GBV-7-TFC-LUEN GBV_ILN_11 ISIL_DE-1a SYSFLAG_1 GBV_KXP GBV_ILN_370 ISIL_DE-1373 GBV_ILN_2011 ISIL_DE-16 GBV_ILN_2040 ISIL_DE-212 GBV_ILN_2470 ISIL_DE-615 73.66 Spiele Feste Bewegungskultur Ethnologie SEPA (DE-627)181571250 74.72 Stadtplanung kommunale Planung SEPA (DE-627)106411039 15.08 Sozialgeschichte SEPA (DE-627)181571005 (DE-627)1756131384 RA Europa Europa fivr (DE-627)1756134707 RQ Weltweit Weltweit fivr (DE-627)1756136084 SG08 Kultur/Sprache/Kunst Gesellschaft Kultur/Sprache/Kunst fivs (DE-627)175613586X SF08 Regionen/Kommunen Staat Regionen/Kommunen fivs (DE-627)1756204764 (DE-615)6609917 Europa fivt (DE-627)1756180598 (DE-615)6608724 Global fivt (DE-627)1756153981 (DE-615)6606895 Stadt fivt (DE-627)1756243239 (DE-615)6606703 Kulturpolitik fivt (DE-627)1756180555 (DE-615)6606165 Förderung/Unterstützung fivt (DE-627)1756181586 (DE-615)6608448 Festspiele fivt (DE-627)1756187886 (DE-615)6604500 Konzeption fivt (DE-627)1756182949 (DE-615)6605235 Motivation fivt (DE-627)1756150869 (DE-615)6602765 Stadtplanung fivt (DE-627)1756242720 (DE-615)6604657 Wirtschaftliche Faktoren fivt (DE-627)175614480X (DE-615)6603027 Soziokulturelle Faktoren fivt (DE-627)1756238022 (DE-615)6605433 Funktion fivt (DE-627)1756240469 (DE-615)6604801 Potential fivt (DE-627)1756221073 (DE-615)6602170 Kulturprojekt fivt (DE-627)1756227187 (DE-615)6606225 Management (funktional) fivt (DE-627)1756158622 (DE-615)6602540 Marketing fivt (DE-627)1756197539 (DE-615)6601264 Beispielhafte Fälle fivt (DE-627)1756153531 (DE-615)6606675 Jahrhundert 19. fivt (DE-627)1756152446 (DE-615)6607787 Jahrhundert 20. fivt (DE-627)175615354X (DE-615)6606838 Jahrhundert 21. fivt (DE-627)1756208662 (DE-615)6609064 Film fiva (DE-627)1756205051 (DE-615)6609540 Musik fiva (DE-627)1756208271 (DE-615)6606905 Popkultur fiva (DE-627)1756206406 (DE-615)6609284 Theater fiva (DE-627)1756212074 (DE-615)6606451 Literatur fiva (DE-627)1756209626 (DE-615)6608131 Architektur fiva (DE-627)1756240221 (DE-615)6609445 Karneval fiva (DE-627)175614589X (DE-615)6603274 Stadtentwicklung fiva (DE-627)1756178704 (DE-615)6602961 Identität fiva (DE-627)1756154465 (DE-615)6606584 Identitätskonstruktion fiva (DE-627)1756217432 (DE-615)6600576 Tourismuspolitik fiva (DE-627)1756145369 (DE-615)6603648 Globalisierung fiva (DE-627)1756174628 (DE-615)6609262 Internationale Kulturbeziehungen fiva BO 045F 394.26 11 01 0001 3970014751 00 5:FIDXASLIN --%%-- s --%%-- Taylor&Francis Temporär im Bestand der Staatsbibliothek k 19-08-21 370 01 4370 4135330312 olr-ebook TF Vervielfältigungen (z.B. Lavishly illustrated, and copiously researched, this book is essential reading not just for urban geographers, social historians and planners, but also for anyone interested in contemporary festival and events tourism, urban events strategy, urban regeneration regeneration, or simply building a fuller understanding of the relationship between culture, planning and the Festival cities culture, planning and urban life |
abstract |
Introduction -- Ancient and modern -- Biennale -- Salzburg -- Cannes -- Edinburgh -- Proliferation -- Asserting identity -- Conclusion. "Festivals have always been part of city life, but their relationship with their host cities has continually changed. Lavishly illustrated, and copiously researched, this book is essential reading not just for urban geographers, social historians and planners, but also for anyone interested in contemporary festival and events tourism, urban events strategy, urban regeneration regeneration, or simply building a fuller understanding of the relationship between culture, planning and the city"-- Includes bibliographical references and index |

Lavishly illustrated, and copiously researched, this book is essential reading not just for urban geographers, social historians and planners, but also for anyone interested in contemporary festival and events tourism, urban events strategy, urban regeneration regeneration, or simply building a fuller understanding of the relationship between culture, planning and the city"--</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Festivals</subfield><subfield code="x">Management</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" "
