520 | |a In 'The Language of Secret Proof', Nina Valerie Kolowratnik challenges the conditions under which Indigenous rights to protect and regain traditional lands are currently negotiated in United States legal frameworks. The tenth volume in the Critical Spatial Practice series responds to the urgent need for alternative modes of evidentiary production by introducing an innovative system of architectural drawing and notation. Today, most Western legal forums utilized by Indigenous communities for recognition of their rights continue to employ evidentiary rules that do not allow for Native truths to be accepted as 'reliable' evidence. When tribes are asked to provide proof of their traditional connection to the land, what Western legal forums accept as documentation does not truly represent or respect tribal culture and traditional formats of knowledge transfer. Kolowratnik's research focuses on the double bind Pueblo communities in the American Southwest are confronted with when they become involved in a legal effort to reclaim and protect ancestral lands, since the process of producing evidence runs counter to their structural organization around oral history and cultural secrecy. The spatial notational systems developed by Kolowratnik with the support of Hemish people, members of Jemez Pueblo in northern New Mexico, and presented in this volume are an attempt to produce evidentiary documentation that speaks Native truths while respecting demands on secrecy. These systems also attempt to instigate a dialogue where there currently is none, deconstructing the fixed opposition between secrecy and disclosure within Western legal systems | ||

These systems also attempt to instigate a dialogue where there currently is none, deconstructing the fixed opposition between secrecy and disclosure within Western legal systems New Mexico Intercultural communication United States Indians of North America Land tenure Jemez Indians Land tenure Maps Ancestral Pueblo culture Maps Kolowratnik, Nina Valerie Themes, motives Architecture and society Ancestral Pueblo culture Architectural drawing Indians of North America ; Land tenure Jemez Indians Spatial systems Kultur Jemez New Mexico Hirsch, Nikolaus 1964- herausgeberin (DE-588)123398525 (DE-627)082532613 (DE-576)214779866 edt Miessen, Markus 1978- herausgeberin (DE-588)1025883896 (DE-627)725396458 (DE-576)370876873 edt Tosa, Pah-Tow-Wei Paul verfasserin eines nachworts aft Critical spatial practice 10 10 (DE-627)749502002 (DE-576)383520797 (DE-600)2719181-3 2569-0574 ns GBV_ILN_370 ISIL_DE-1373 SYSFLAG_1 GBV_KXP BO 045F 720.28/4 370 01 4370 4039928083 00 EG RT 15906 001 u --%%-- z 20-01-22 370 01 4370 HC057862 370 01 4370 2022-0051 370 01 4370 202201 |

In 'The Language of Secret Proof', Nina Valerie Kolowratnik challenges the conditions under which Indigenous rights to protect and regain traditional lands are currently negotiated in United States legal frameworks. These systems also attempt to instigate a dialogue where there currently is none, deconstructing the fixed opposition between secrecy and disclosure within Western legal systems</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="600" ind1="1" ind2="4"><subfield code="a">New Mexico</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Intercultural communication</subfield><subfield code="z">United States</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Indians of North America</subfield><subfield code="x">Land tenure</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Jemez Indians</subfield><subfield code="x">Land tenure</subfield><subfield code="x">Maps</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Ancestral Pueblo culture</subfield><subfield code="x">Maps</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Kolowratnik, Nina Valerie</subfield><subfield code="x">Themes, motives</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="4"><subfield code="a">Architecture and society</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="4"><subfield code="a">Ancestral Pueblo culture</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="4"><subfield code="a">Architectural drawing</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="4"><subfield code="a">Indians of North America ; Land tenure</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="4"><subfield code="a">Jemez Indians</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="4"><subfield code="a">Spatial systems</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="4"><subfield code="a">Kultur</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="4"><subfield code="a">Jemez</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="651" ind1=" " ind2="4"><subfield code="a">New Mexico</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="700" ind1="1" ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Hirsch, Nikolaus</subfield><subfield code="d">1964-</subfield><subfield code="e">herausgeberin</subfield><subfield code="0">(DE-588)123398525</subfield><subfield code="0">(DE-627)082532613</subfield><subfield code="0">(DE-576)214779866</subfield><subfield code="4">edt</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="700" ind1="1" ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Miessen, Markus</subfield><subfield code="d">1978-</subfield><subfield code="e">herausgeberin</subfield><subfield code="0">(DE-588)1025883896</subfield><subfield code="0">(DE-627)725396458</subfield><subfield code="0">(DE-576)370876873</subfield><subfield code="4">edt</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="700" ind1="1" ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Tosa, Pah-Tow-Wei Paul</subfield><subfield code="e">verfasserin eines nachworts</subfield><subfield code="4">aft</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="830" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Critical spatial practice</subfield><subfield code="v">10</subfield><subfield code="9">10</subfield><subfield code="w">(DE-627)749502002</subfield><subfield code="w">(DE-576)383520797</subfield><subfield code="w">(DE-600)2719181-3</subfield><subfield code="x">2569-0574</subfield><subfield code="7">ns</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="912" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">GBV_ILN_370</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="912" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">ISIL_DE-1373</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="912" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">SYSFLAG_1</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="912" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">GBV_KXP</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="951" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">BO</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="953" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="2">045F</subfield><subfield code="a">720.28/4</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="980" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="2">370</subfield><subfield code="1">01</subfield><subfield code="x">4370</subfield><subfield code="b">4039928083</subfield><subfield code="c">00</subfield><subfield code="f">EG</subfield><subfield code="d">RT 15906 001</subfield><subfield code="e">u</subfield><subfield code="j">--%%--</subfield><subfield code="y">z</subfield><subfield code="z">20-01-22</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="984" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="2">370</subfield><subfield code="1">01</subfield><subfield code="x">4370</subfield><subfield code="a">HC057862</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="985" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="2">370</subfield><subfield code="1">01</subfield><subfield code="x">4370</subfield><subfield code="a">2022-0051</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="998" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="2">370</subfield><subfield code="1">01</subfield><subfield code="x">4370</subfield><subfield code="0">202201</subfield></datafield></record></collection>
