A completely transparent alumino-silicate geopolymer was successfully synthesized via the reactions of hydrolysis and polymerization. X-ray diffraction (XRD), fourier transform infrared (FT-IR), differential thermal analysis (TG-DTA), scanning electron microscope (FE-SEM), and energy dispersive X-ray (EDX) were employed to confirm the crystal structure as the component of Mg0.5[(Si-O)-(Al-O)]⋅1.8H2O, which has a similar crystal structure to that of zeolite, like [SiO4] and [AlO4] tetrahedrons connected to each other by oxygen bridge in a Si-O-Al chain The synthesized geopolymer was found to be suitably used for electrophoretic deposition process (EPD) by significantly improving the adhesion of the coatings deposited by the EPD process as a new inorganic binder via a solidification of polycondensation reaction in the vicinity of cathode during the EPD process due to pH localization, even no any cracks and/or peeling in the coatings after thermal treatment at high temperature.
