The electrodeposition of a lead monolayer on Pt(111) forms an ordered structure with a rectangular 4Pb-(3 x 3) unit cell, θ"P"b = 23, as determined by in situ SXS and STM techniques. Close to Pt terrace edges, a coexisting 7Pb-(23 x 23)R30^o unit cell,θ"P"b = 712, was observed with STM. Data from both techniques suggest an order-disorder phase transition which is associated with a very sharp peak in the current-potential curve. No ordered structures were observed for Pt(100) and Pt(110) by SXS, while islands were observed on Pt(100) by STM. These results emphasize the importance of the in situ studies of electrodeposited monolayers. Ausführliche Beschreibung
