The evaporation morphology of (001), (011), (111) and (112) surfaces of pure NaCl, NaCl-CaCl"2 and NaCl-CdCl"2 crystals was studied. The reliability of thermal etching in revealing the structural crystal defects in comparison with chemical etching is probed. The interaction of evaporation fronts and dislocations decorated with impurities (aged dislocations) in NaCl-CaCl"2 crystals was investigated. It is observed that the movement of the evaporation fronts is impeded by the aged dislocations, as revealed by the cusp-like configurations. Subgrain boundaries in these crystals are revealed by the thermal etching on all the above-mentioned surfaces and their migration due to heat treatment is also observed. One-to-one correspondence between the thermal pits and the dislocations is not observed. Ausführliche Beschreibung
