A discussion of the analysis of experimental 3π; decay spectra of the K and η mesons is presented. A linearized Brown and Singer resonance model is shown to produce the same results as Weinberg's linear approximation. Provided that the experimental K and η -> 3π reduced spectra are statistically indistinguishable from straight lines, asis currently the case, it is further shown that a large correlated range of values for the resonance mass m"σ and width Γ"σ will give acceptable fits to the data. This leads to the conclusion that the present experimental data, although consistent with the Brown and Singer theory, are insufficient to serve as a strong test of the theory.
