A new method of readout from gas-discharge particle detectors is described. The method is based on the use of glass-optical fibers, whose cores are doped by rare-earth elements. The coordinate of a spark was determined by the ratio of the signal amplitudes from two neighbouring fibers. For 14 mm spaced fibers a σ ~ 200 μm is obtained with sparks of 0.02 J.
