Abstract We use elasticity theory methods to obtain a mathematical description of the closure model for cracks with end regions, where the material adhesion forces acts, in the plunger bushing. It is assumed that, in the case of repeated reciprocating motion of the plunger, the friction fracture of the bushing material occurs owing to the contact interaction. Determining unknown parameters that characterize the crack closure is reduced to solving a system of singular integro-differential equations. We use an algebraization procedure to reduce the integral equations to a system of nonlinear algebraic equations, which can be solved by the successive approximation method. We find the normal and tangential contact forces, the forces in the bridges between the crack faces, and the dimensions of the contact end regions where the crack faces close.
