520 | |a This response to Richard Cross offers a different interpretation of Luther's employment of the communicatio idiomatum. Whereas Cross wants to place Luther's understanding of the communicatio idiomatum within a strictly philosophical framework of abstractions in order to make it fit a scholastic understanding, Luther firmly objects to such a modus operandi. Luther clearly differentiates between philosophy and theology, finding the former insufficient when dealing with Christology and soteriology. Counter to the scholastics but in continuity with Bernard of Clairvaux, Luther's Christology is incarnational and bound to humanity. To Luther it is fundamental that God can and will be known only as a human being (homo), yet Christ's real presence is presented three-dimensionally. Luther's complex understanding of Christ as really human and the Word incarnate is reflected in his intense work with semantics and the art of translation. Hence Christ is precisely human, not male; ministry is reconfigured as a human function (ministerium verbi), not a substitute for divine sacredness that is assigned to the Catholic vicarious Christi. | ||

Hence Christ is precisely human, not male; ministry is reconfigured as a human function (ministerium verbi), not a substitute for divine sacredness that is assigned to the Catholic vicarious Christi. ministerium verbi Bernard of Clairvaux real presence intersectionality incarnation communicatio idiomatum Martin Luther Rezension (DE-588)4049712-4 (DE-627)106186019 (DE-576)209083166 gnd-content p (DE-588)118575449 (DE-627)133813363 (DE-576)162061560 Luther, Martin 1483-1546 gnd p (DE-588)118509810 (DE-627)142043583 (DE-576)160263654 Bernard Clairvaux, Abt, Heiliger 1090-1153 gnd s (DE-588)4010141-1 (DE-627)106359606 (DE-576)20888615X Christologie gnd s (DE-588)1023789752 (DE-627)718474155 (DE-576)36744481X Inkarnation Jesu gnd s (DE-588)4497039-0 (DE-627)242404863 (DE-576)213040034 Idiomenkommunikation gnd (DE-627) Cross, Richard 1964- verfasserin des bezugswerks (DE-588)174042477 (DE-627)698939387 (DE-576)13487790X ant Enthalten in Pro ecclesia Thousand Oaks, CA : Sage Publishing, 1992 32(2023), 1/2, Seite 101-117 Online-Ressource (DE-627)618796568 (DE-600)2538905-1 (DE-576)325341346 2631-8334 nnns volume:32 year:2023 number:1/2 pages:101-117 Rezension von Cross, Richard, 1964 - Communicatio idiomatum First edition Oxford : Oxford University Press, 2019 xxiv, 288 Seiten (DE-627)1685869343 9780198846970 Kritik in Cross, Richard Response to Critics 2023 (DE-627)187190532X https://doi.org/10.1177/10638512231205225 Resolving-System lizenzpflichtig Volltext GBV_USEFLAG_U NOMM GBV_ILN_2019 ISIL_DE-Tue135 SYSFLAG_1 GBV_KXP GBV_ILN_11 GBV_ILN_20 GBV_ILN_22 GBV_ILN_31 GBV_ILN_32 GBV_ILN_39 GBV_ILN_40 GBV_ILN_60 GBV_ILN_62 GBV_ILN_65 GBV_ILN_69 GBV_ILN_70 GBV_ILN_100 GBV_ILN_161 GBV_ILN_171 GBV_ILN_206 GBV_ILN_293 GBV_ILN_370 GBV_ILN_636 GBV_ILN_702 GBV_ILN_2001 GBV_ILN_2003 GBV_ILN_2006 GBV_ILN_2008 GBV_ILN_2009 GBV_ILN_2010 GBV_ILN_2011 GBV_ILN_2021 GBV_ILN_2025 GBV_ILN_2026 GBV_ILN_2034 GBV_ILN_2036 GBV_ILN_2055 GBV_ILN_2059 GBV_ILN_2065 GBV_ILN_2068 GBV_ILN_2098 GBV_ILN_2107 GBV_ILN_2111 GBV_ILN_2119 GBV_ILN_2129 GBV_ILN_2190 GBV_ILN_2446 GBV_ILN_2470 GBV_ILN_2507 GBV_ILN_2548 GBV_ILN_4012 GBV_ILN_4035 GBV_ILN_4112 GBV_ILN_4125 GBV_ILN_4126 GBV_ILN_4242 GBV_ILN_4305 GBV_ILN_4307 GBV_ILN_4313 GBV_ILN_4322 GBV_ILN_4323 GBV_ILN_4324 GBV_ILN_4325 GBV_ILN_4393 GBV_ILN_4700 mteo AR 32 2023 1/2 101-117 2019 01 DE-Tü135 4433772704 00 --%%-- --%%-- --%%-- n l01 13-12-23 2019 01 DE-Tü135 00 (DE-627)1442044608 KAG 2019 01 DE-Tü135 01 (DE-627)1442044462 KAE 2019 01 DE-Tü135 02 (DE-627)1442051787 NBF |

A Lutheran Interpretation of Communicatio Idiomatum: A Response to Richard Cross |
abstract |
This response to Richard Cross offers a different interpretation of Luther's employment of the communicatio idiomatum.
