I begin by examining liberal reform – or reformist reforms – and how they often end up reifying imprisonment. I juxtapose liberal reform to the proposed abolitionist reform typology, consisting of imaginable, semi-imaginable, and unimaginable reforms. Drawing on the community organizing of the Criminalization and Punishment Education Project (CPEP) – a volunteer-based activist group working in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada – I demonstrate how different types of reforms can be pursued by abolitionists simultaneously: imaginable reforms that reduce the harms and use of carceral spaces and practices; semi-imaginable reforms that work to divert and decarcerate people from custody; and unimaginable reforms that replace oppressive structures with caring and compassionate ones. I also explore the pitfalls, possibilities, and tensions within each approach to reform within revolutionary struggles. This paper seeks to cover the possibilities and pitfalls of different types of reform and envision how they can be used in concert to progress prison abolition. | ||

This paper seeks to cover the possibilities and pitfalls of different types of reform and envision how they can be used in concert to progress prison abolition. revolution carceral reform abolition Prison Enthalten in Contemporary justice review London [u.a.] : Routledge, 1998 26(2023), 2, Seite 200-223 Online-Ressource (DE-627)341898058 (DE-600)2069546-9 (DE-576)27177293X 1477-2248 nnns volume:26 year:2023 number:2 pages:200-223 https://doi.org/10.1080/10282580.2023.2284424 Resolving-System lizenzpflichtig Volltext GBV_USEFLAG_U NOMM GBV_ILN_2075 ISIL_DE-2619 SYSFLAG_1 GBV_KXP GBV_ILN_11 GBV_ILN_20 GBV_ILN_22 GBV_ILN_60 GBV_ILN_63 GBV_ILN_65 GBV_ILN_69 GBV_ILN_70 GBV_ILN_100 GBV_ILN_101 GBV_ILN_110 GBV_ILN_151 GBV_ILN_206 GBV_ILN_224 GBV_ILN_285 GBV_ILN_370 GBV_ILN_702 GBV_ILN_2001 GBV_ILN_2003 GBV_ILN_2005 GBV_ILN_2006 GBV_ILN_2007 GBV_ILN_2008 GBV_ILN_2009 GBV_ILN_2010 GBV_ILN_2011 GBV_ILN_2014 GBV_ILN_2015 GBV_ILN_2020 GBV_ILN_2021 GBV_ILN_2025 GBV_ILN_2026 GBV_ILN_2031 GBV_ILN_2034 GBV_ILN_2044 GBV_ILN_2048 GBV_ILN_2050 GBV_ILN_2055 GBV_ILN_2056 GBV_ILN_2057 GBV_ILN_2061 GBV_ILN_2106 GBV_ILN_2111 GBV_ILN_2190 GBV_ILN_2232 GBV_ILN_2470 GBV_ILN_2507 GBV_ILN_4012 GBV_ILN_4035 GBV_ILN_4046 GBV_ILN_4246 GBV_ILN_4249 GBV_ILN_4305 GBV_ILN_4306 GBV_ILN_4313 GBV_ILN_4322 GBV_ILN_4325 GBV_ILN_4700 mkri AR 26 2023 2 200-223 2075 01 DE-2619 4468700165 00 --%%-- --%%-- --%%-- n l01 27-01-24 |

The role of reform in revolutionary struggles: advancing imaginable, semi-imaginable, and unimaginable reforms to work towards prison abolition |
abstract |
This paper explores how different types of reform can be used to progress short-, medium-, and long-term abolitionist goals. |

This paper seeks to cover the possibilities and pitfalls of different types of reform and envision how they can be used in concert to progress prison abolition.</subfield></datafield><datafield
