However, the population structure and genomic characteristics of mastitis-associated <i<S. aureus</i< in small ruminants are limited. Furthermore, the genotypic and phenotypic characteristics involved in the pathogenicity of <i<S</i<. <i<aureus</i< have been thoroughly defined, yet their association with the severity of mastitis is not fully established. Here, we performed genotyping by pulsed-field gel electrophoresis (PFGE) and <i<spa</i< analyses to assess the genetic diversity and relatedness of 162 <i<S. aureus</i< strains recovered from clinical mastitis (CM) and subclinical mastitis (SCM) cases from goats, sheep, and bovines. PFGE analysis revealed 108 distinguishable pulsotypes and 3 main clusters that comprised isolates from the three host species, while according to <i<spa</i< typing, 32 different <i<spa</i< types were identified. Genotypic analysis revealed a spreading of genetically related or indistinguishable <i<S. aureus</i< strains among ovine, caprine, and bovine farms of distant geographical regions. In total, 28 different staphylococcal enterotoxin (SE) gene profiles were observed, revealing a diverse range of SE genes among isolates. By evaluating the antimicrobial resistance, we found low phenotypic antimicrobial resistance among all ruminant isolates. We also performed multiple correspondence analysis, which indicated that the presence of the <i<sec</i< gene, biofilm production, and high autoaggregation ability are associated with CM cases. | ||

In total, 28 different staphylococcal enterotoxin (SE) gene profiles were observed, revealing a diverse range of SE genes among isolates. By evaluating the antimicrobial resistance, we found low phenotypic antimicrobial resistance among all ruminant isolates. We also performed multiple correspondence analysis, which indicated that the presence of the <i<sec</i< gene, biofilm production, and high autoaggregation ability are associated with CM cases. mastitis <i<Staphylococcus aureus</i< staphylococcal enterotoxin ruminants PFGE <i<spa</i< typing Medicine R George Vafeas verfasserin aut Virginia Giantzi verfasserin aut Sofia Anastasiadou verfasserin aut Stavros Mygdalias verfasserin aut Andigoni Malousi verfasserin aut Ekateriniadou Loukia verfasserin aut Sergelidis Daniel verfasserin aut Antonios Zdragas verfasserin aut In Toxins MDPI AG, 2010 13(2021), 3, p 176 (DE-627)610604236 (DE-600)2518395-3 20726651 nnns volume:13 year:2021 number:3, p 176 https://doi.org/10.3390/toxins13030176 kostenfrei https://doaj.org/article/90776fbbd88f4caa95ae3decbf05fc3c kostenfrei https://www.mdpi.com/2072-6651/13/3/176 kostenfrei https://doaj.org/toc/2072-6651 Journal toc kostenfrei GBV_USEFLAG_A SYSFLAG_A GBV_DOAJ GBV_ILN_20 GBV_ILN_22 GBV_ILN_23 GBV_ILN_24 GBV_ILN_31 GBV_ILN_39 GBV_ILN_40 GBV_ILN_60 GBV_ILN_62 GBV_ILN_63 GBV_ILN_65 GBV_ILN_69 GBV_ILN_73 GBV_ILN_74 GBV_ILN_95 GBV_ILN_105 GBV_ILN_110 GBV_ILN_151 GBV_ILN_161 GBV_ILN_170 GBV_ILN_206 GBV_ILN_213 GBV_ILN_224 GBV_ILN_230 GBV_ILN_285 GBV_ILN_293 GBV_ILN_602 GBV_ILN_2005 GBV_ILN_2009 GBV_ILN_2011 GBV_ILN_2014 GBV_ILN_2055 GBV_ILN_2111 GBV_ILN_4012 GBV_ILN_4037 GBV_ILN_4112 GBV_ILN_4125 GBV_ILN_4126 GBV_ILN_4249 GBV_ILN_4305 GBV_ILN_4306 GBV_ILN_4307 GBV_ILN_4313 GBV_ILN_4322 GBV_ILN_4323 GBV_ILN_4324 GBV_ILN_4325 GBV_ILN_4338 GBV_ILN_4367 GBV_ILN_4700 AR 13 2021 3, p 176 |

<i<Staphylococcus aureus</i< Isolated from Ruminants with Mastitis in Northern Greece Dairy Herds: Genetic Relatedness and Phenotypic and Genotypic Characterization |
abstract |
<i<Staphylococcus aureus</i< is the most common mastitis-related pathogen in dairy cattle, goats, and sheep worldwide. |
