520 | |a Expression of the aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AhR) has been described in various tumor entities from different organs. However, its role in ovarian cancer has not been thoroughly investigated. We aimed to elucidate the prognostic impact of AhR, its correlation with the follicle-stimulating hormone receptor (FSHR), and their functional role in ovarian cancer. By immunohistochemistry, AhR staining was analyzed in a subset of 156 samples of ovarian cancer patients. AhR staining was assessed in the nucleus and the cytoplasm using the semi-quantitative immunoreactive score (IRS), and the scores were grouped into high- and low-level expression. AhR expression was detected in all histological subtypes, with clear cell ovarian cancer displaying the highest staining intensity. Low cytoplasmic expression of AhR was associated with longer overall survival (median 183.46 vs. 85.07 months; <i<p</i< = 0.021). We found a positive correlation between AhR and FSHR (<i<p</i< = 0.005). Ovarian cancer patients with high cytoplasmic AhR and concurrent FSHR expression had the worst outcome (median 69.72 vs. 43.32 months; <i<p</i< = 0.043). Consequently, low cytoplasmic AhR expression seems to be associated with improved survival in ovarian cancer patients. Our data suggest that AhR and FSHR levels correlate with each other, and their concurrent expression was observed in ovarian cancer patients with the worst outcome. Further investigation of the interaction of both receptors and their functional role might better predict the impact of endocrine therapy in ovarian cancer. | ||

Consequently, low cytoplasmic AhR expression seems to be associated with improved survival in ovarian cancer patients. Our data suggest that AhR and FSHR levels correlate with each other, and their concurrent expression was observed in ovarian cancer patients with the worst outcome. Further investigation of the interaction of both receptors and their functional role might better predict the impact of endocrine therapy in ovarian cancer. aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AhR) follicle-stimulating hormone receptor (FSHR) ovarian cancer immunohistochemistry Biology (General) Chemistry Doris Mayr verfasserin aut Anna Hester verfasserin aut Thomas Kolben verfasserin aut Christine Zeder-Göß verfasserin aut Alexander Burges verfasserin aut Sven Mahner verfasserin aut Udo Jeschke verfasserin aut Fabian Trillsch verfasserin aut Bastian Czogalla verfasserin aut In International Journal of Molecular Sciences MDPI AG, 2003 20(2019), 12, p 2862 (DE-627)316340715 (DE-600)2019364-6 14220067 nnns volume:20 year:2019 number:12, p 2862 https://doi.org/10.3390/ijms20122862 kostenfrei https://doaj.org/article/3a518a4e15464cbeb56a6b9281000776 kostenfrei https://www.mdpi.com/1422-0067/20/12/2862 kostenfrei https://doaj.org/toc/1422-0067 Journal toc kostenfrei GBV_USEFLAG_A SYSFLAG_A GBV_DOAJ SSG-OLC-PHA GBV_ILN_20 GBV_ILN_22 GBV_ILN_23 GBV_ILN_24 GBV_ILN_31 GBV_ILN_39 GBV_ILN_40 GBV_ILN_60 GBV_ILN_62 GBV_ILN_63 GBV_ILN_65 GBV_ILN_69 GBV_ILN_70 GBV_ILN_73 GBV_ILN_74 GBV_ILN_95 GBV_ILN_105 GBV_ILN_110 GBV_ILN_151 GBV_ILN_161 GBV_ILN_170 GBV_ILN_206 GBV_ILN_213 GBV_ILN_224 GBV_ILN_230 GBV_ILN_285 GBV_ILN_293 GBV_ILN_602 GBV_ILN_2005 GBV_ILN_2009 GBV_ILN_2011 GBV_ILN_2014 GBV_ILN_2055 GBV_ILN_2111 GBV_ILN_4012 GBV_ILN_4037 GBV_ILN_4112 GBV_ILN_4125 GBV_ILN_4126 GBV_ILN_4249 GBV_ILN_4305 GBV_ILN_4306 GBV_ILN_4307 GBV_ILN_4313 GBV_ILN_4322 GBV_ILN_4323 GBV_ILN_4324 GBV_ILN_4325 GBV_ILN_4338 GBV_ILN_4367 GBV_ILN_4700 AR 20 2019 12, p 2862 |

Correlation of the Aryl Hydrocarbon Receptor with FSHR in Ovarian Cancer Patients |
abstract |
Expression of the aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AhR) has been described in various tumor entities from different organs. |
