Language contacts between the Proto-Slavs and a Finno-Ugric substratum must have been exceptionally intensive, as the Proto-Slavs borrowed some verbs—e.g., PSl. *kǫpati ‘to immerse in water, to bathe, to wash’, PSl. *ličiti ‘to count, reckon, calculate’. | ||
