520 | |a High urbanization rates in cities lead to rapid changes in land uses, particularly in southern cities where population growth is fast. Urban and peri-urban agricultural land is often seen as available space for the city to expand, but at the same time, agricultural land provides many benefits to cities pertaining to food, employment, and eco-services. In this context, there is an urgent need to provide spatial information to support planning in complex urban systems. The challenge is to integrate analysis of agriculture and urban land-cover classes, and of their spatial and functional patterns. This paper takes up this challenge in Antananarivo (Madagascar), where agricultural plots and homes are interlocked and very small. It innovates by using a methodology already tested in rural settings, but never applied to urban environments. The key step of the analysis is to produce landscape zoning based on multisource satellite data to identify agri-urban functional areas within the city, and to explore their relationships. Our results demonstrate that the proposed classification method is well suited for mapping agriculture and urban land cover (overall accuracy = 76.56% for the 20 classes of level 3) in such a complex setting. The systemic analysis of urban agriculture patterns and functions can help policymakers and urban planners to design and build resilient cities. | ||

The systemic analysis of urban agriculture patterns and functions can help policymakers and urban planners to design and build resilient cities. land-cover mapping urban agriculture agri-urban zoning Madagascar OBIA Sentinel2 Science Q Laurence Defrise verfasserin aut Valentine Lebourgeois verfasserin aut Raffaele Gaetano verfasserin aut Perrine Burnod verfasserin aut Jean-Philippe Tonneau verfasserin aut In Remote Sensing MDPI AG, 2009 12(2020), 12, p 1962 (DE-627)608937916 (DE-600)2513863-7 20724292 nnns volume:12 year:2020 number:12, p 1962 https://doi.org/10.3390/rs12121962 kostenfrei https://doaj.org/article/b9ad554050f74cf393731e26486a9cf0 kostenfrei https://www.mdpi.com/2072-4292/12/12/1962 kostenfrei https://doaj.org/toc/2072-4292 Journal toc kostenfrei GBV_USEFLAG_A SYSFLAG_A GBV_DOAJ GBV_ILN_20 GBV_ILN_22 GBV_ILN_23 GBV_ILN_24 GBV_ILN_39 GBV_ILN_40 GBV_ILN_60 GBV_ILN_62 GBV_ILN_63 GBV_ILN_65 GBV_ILN_69 GBV_ILN_70 GBV_ILN_73 GBV_ILN_95 GBV_ILN_105 GBV_ILN_110 GBV_ILN_151 GBV_ILN_161 GBV_ILN_170 GBV_ILN_206 GBV_ILN_213 GBV_ILN_230 GBV_ILN_285 GBV_ILN_293 GBV_ILN_370 GBV_ILN_602 GBV_ILN_2005 GBV_ILN_2009 GBV_ILN_2011 GBV_ILN_2014 GBV_ILN_2055 GBV_ILN_2108 GBV_ILN_2111 GBV_ILN_2119 GBV_ILN_4012 GBV_ILN_4037 GBV_ILN_4112 GBV_ILN_4125 GBV_ILN_4126 GBV_ILN_4249 GBV_ILN_4305 GBV_ILN_4306 GBV_ILN_4307 GBV_ILN_4313 GBV_ILN_4322 GBV_ILN_4323 GBV_ILN_4324 GBV_ILN_4325 GBV_ILN_4335 GBV_ILN_4338 GBV_ILN_4367 GBV_ILN_4392 GBV_ILN_4700 AR 12 2020 12, p 1962 |

Analyzing Urban Agriculture’s Contribution to a Southern City’s Resilience through Land Cover Mapping: The Case of Antananarivo, Capital of Madagascar |
abstract |
High urbanization rates in cities lead to rapid changes in land uses, particularly in southern cities where population growth is fast. |

The systemic analysis of urban agriculture patterns and functions can help policymakers and urban planners to design and build resilient cities.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" "
