Palavras-chave: uniformes escolares - democratização do ensino - práticas escolares - periódicos educacionais - cultura escolar Fantasies of equality: school uniforms and democratization in Brazil Abstract The article examines the different configurations of the school uniforms use practices in the period 1948-1971, in Brazil. Awakening the most diverse sentiments, intending to "clear differences" socio-economic evidenced by the clothes and trying to make "all the same" by the requirement of a single type of clothing, school uniforms were a source of pride, of intimidation or sign of distinction. In marked period, articles published in educational journals evidenced the difficulties that the poorest families faced to be able to keep their children in school due to the demands materials that were made, among them, the very requirement of uniforms. In late 1950, the São Paulo Alpargatas S. A. began producing footwear made of synthetic material, which were sold at prices lower than conventional leather shoes. It stated that the initiative would solve the "problem" of those days of "high cost of living" standardizing "feet of the class." Awakening the most diverse sentiments, intending to "clear differences" socio-economic evidenced by the clothes and trying to make "all the same" by the requirement of a single type of clothing, school uniforms were a source of pride, of intimidation or sign of distinction. It stated that the initiative would solve the "problem" of those days of "high cost of living" standardizing "feet of the class."
abstract |
It stated that the initiative would solve the "problem" of those days of "high cost of living" standardizing "feet of the class."
