Electrophysiological examination of autonomic nervous system and quantitative sensory testing
Many neurological diseases are associated with dysautonomia. Simple and quick approximate evaluation of dysautonomia can be performed in every electrophysiological lab. Sympathetic function is analyzed by sympathetic skin response (SSR) and parasympathetic by RR interval analysis. SSR evaluates peri...

Sympathetic function is analyzed by sympathetic skin response (SSR) and parasympathetic by RR interval analysis. SSR evaluates peripheral sympathetic cholinergic sudomotor function, analyzing reflex electrodermal activity. RR interval analysis evaluates parasympathetic cholinergic cardiovagal function, analyzing heart rate variability during respiration. Indications for these examinations are: pandisautonomia and neuropathies associated with dysautonomia. Test sensitivity ranges from 10% to 85% depending on diagnosis. Detail evaluation of dysautonomia is performed in specialized cardiological labs. | ||

Electrophysiological examination of autonomic nervous system and quantitative sensory testing |
abstract |
Many neurological diseases are associated with dysautonomia. Simple and quick approximate evaluation of dysautonomia can be performed in every electrophysiological lab. Sympathetic function is analyzed by sympathetic skin response (SSR) and parasympathetic by RR interval analysis. |
