Chemically induced Salmonella enteritidis ghosts as a novel vaccine candidate against virulent challenge in a rat model

• A novel non-living SEGs was produced by MIC of NaOH. • Formation of the SEGs was examined by scanning electron microscopy. • Vaccination with SEGs significantly induced immune responses. • SEG vaccine provided efficient protection against virulent challenge.
