• Bracken fern facilitates early seedling recruitment of shade-tolerant tropical trees. • Seedling recruitment of Clusia was reduced by litter and vegetation removal of bracken. • Seedling survival and growth were also reduced by litter removal. • We recommend spreading seeds of late-successional plants into bracken vegetation. |
