Little penguins, Eudyptula minor, show increased avoidance, aggression and vigilance in response to zoo visitors |
abstract |
• This is the first study to investigate impacts of zoo visitors on little penguins. • We studied two conditions, enclosure closed to visitors and open to visitors. • Penguin behaviour was analysed under each condition. • When exposed to visitors, penguins showed increased avoidance, aggression and vigilance. • These results suggest that visitors may be fear-provoking for this group of penguins. |
