Ray bycatch in a tropical shrimp fishery: Do Bycatch Reduction Devices and Turtle Excluder Devices effectively exclude rays?

• The combination of BRD and TED reduced ray bycatch by 36%. • Escape from trawls was related to ray size and species-specific morphology. • Large rays showed high escape-ratios, but smaller rays dominated catches. • Further efforts should focus on reducing bycatch of small-sized rays.
