Attenuation characteristics in eastern Himalaya and southern Tibetan Plateau: An understanding of the physical state of the medium
• An estimate of seismic wave attenuation is made by using S and Coda wave for eastern Himalaya and southern Tibet. • MLTWA method is used further to estimate the relative contribution of intrinsic and scattering attenuation for the region. • At all the frequencies intrinsic absorption is predominan...

Attenuation characteristics in eastern Himalaya and southern Tibetan Plateau: An understanding of the physical state of the medium |
abstract |
• An estimate of seismic wave attenuation is made by using S and Coda wave for eastern Himalaya and southern Tibet. • MLTWA method is used further to estimate the relative contribution of intrinsic and scattering attenuation for the region. • At all the frequencies intrinsic absorption is predominant compared to scattering attenuation. • Our results may suggest the possible existence of trapped fluids in the crust or its thermal nature. |
