• First study to explore the effect of expressing CuZnSOD in liver on mice lacking CuZnSOD in all other tissues. • Expressing CuZnSOD in the liver of Sod1−/− mice reduced oxidative damage in liver and prevented liver dysfunction and the expression several genes involved in liver tumorigenesis were altered. • Expressing CuZnSOD in the liver of Sod1−/− mice significantly increased the lifespan of the mice but had no effect on the accelerated sarcopenia phenotype of the Sod1−/− mice. |
