• A home birth can be a significant moment for the attending midwife. • During a home birth, midwives can get away from the stressful work environment in hospital and give the birthing woman full focus. • Home births can increase midwives’ knowledge about normal birth and help them develop their practical skills. • To be a home birth-attending midwife can, however, entail having to make sacrifices in one’s private life. It can also lead to not being fully accepted in the maternity care system. |
