• SLI antagonized H/R-induced hyperpermeability and reduction of TJs in bEnd.3 cells. • SLI enhanced TJ expression in bEnd.3 cells and I/R rats. • SLI stabled BBB function via ERK1/2 and Akt signaling pathways.
