Neurovascular manifestations in connective tissue diseases: The case of Marfan Syndrome
• Patients with connective tissue diseases and in particular Marfan patients are associated with an increased risk of cerebrovascular alterations, such as intracranial aneurysms, dissections and strokes, than the general population. • Aberrations in elastic fiber structure rather than in collagen on...

Neurovascular manifestations in connective tissue diseases: The case of Marfan Syndrome |
abstract |
• Patients with connective tissue diseases and in particular Marfan patients are associated with an increased risk of cerebrovascular alterations, such as intracranial aneurysms, dissections and strokes, than the general population. • Aberrations in elastic fiber structure rather than in collagen one are the greater contributors to the development of tortuous vasculature. • Vascular tortuosity may be an important phenotypic component of patients with connective tissue diseases who are at risk for dissection, thus the possibility of a regular cervical vascular screening is suggested. • It is suggested to perform neurovascular screening in these patients who appear to be at higher risk of cerebrovascular complications. |
