Prevalence and molecular analysis of Sarcocystis infections in cattle in Northwest Iran and the first global report of S. gigantea in cattle |
abstract |
• Cattle Sarcocystis infection is highly prevalent in Northwest Iran. • Sarcocystis cruzi is the predominant species presented in cattle and the genetic variants of this species are distributing in Northwest provinces of Iran. • The first global detection of S. gigantea in cattle reflects new insights of transmission dynamic and biology of this parasite in the region. • The results showed that S. hominis which is of zoonotic importance, is less prevalent in Northwest Iran. |
