Highly sensitive detection of Hg2+ using ruthenium complex-based probe in water

• A new cycloruthenated complex for detecting Hg2+ was synthesized. • It can detect Hg2+ by significant spectral and color changes in water. • Loading the complex onto the NH2-MSNs afforded a new material to detect, enrich and separate Hg2+ in water.
