On-road virtual reality autonomous vehicle (VRAV) simulator: An empirical study on user experience |
abstract |
• An on-road virtual reality autonomous vehicle (VRAV) simulator was developed and evaluated. • The user experiences of on-road and stationary simulations, with and without head-mounted display VR, were obtained and analyzed. • A range of aspects (e.g., acceptance, simulator sickness and realism) of the user experiences were compared. • Results indicated a realistic and immersive driving experience provided by the VRAV simulator. • VRAV offers a cost-effective tool for safely studying realistic, complex scenarios involving AV. |
