In the context of intestinal disease, compelling evidence demonstrates both protective and detrimental roles for this bidirectional neuro-immune signaling. This review discusses the different immune cell types that are recognized to engage in neuronal crosstalk during intestinal health and disease. Highlighting the molecular pathways involved in the neuro-immune interactions might inspire novel strategies to target intestinal disease. | ||
