The compound crystallizes in the triclinic space group P1, with a 935.2(4), b 960.5(4), c 1525.9(7) pm, α 71.84(4), β 89.44(4), γ 67.94(4)^o, V 1198 X 10^6 pm^3, Z 2.The structure shows a slightly distorted octahedral geometry about thecentral chromium atom with phosphorus and five carbonyl groups occupying the coordinate positions. The phosphorus atom has a trigonal planar coordination. For steric reasons the phosphine ligand adapts a cis configuration with a N-P-N angle of 119.6^o, The PN and CrP bond lengths are 151.9 and 232.7 pm, respectively.
