Gamma ray and π^0 production from hydrogen and complex nuclei by 270-375 MeV gamma rays |
abstract |
Measurements are reported on the differential cross section for secondary gamma ray production on hydrogen and nuclear targets at 90^o in the laboratory through the interactions of primary gamma rays in the energy range 270-375 MeV. A difference method using bremsstrahlung beams at different end point energies was employed. The gamma ray detector was a high resolution Nal(Tl) spectrometer and time of flight discrimination was used to reject neutrons. For incident gamma rays in the range 270-375 MeV the first pion nucleon resonance is strongly excited and the observed gamma ray yields are consistent with those expected due to an admixture of coherent and incoherent π^0 photoproduction in the resonance region. The experiment marks the first successful use of a large Nal(Tl) crystals as a gamma ray spectrometer at a high energy electron linear accelerator, despite the low duty cycle and its accompanying difficulties for such detectors. |

The experiment marks the first successful use of a large Nal(Tl) crystals as a gamma ray spectrometer at a high energy electron linear accelerator, despite the low duty cycle and its accompanying difficulties for such detectors.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="533" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="f">Elsevier Journal Backfiles on ScienceDirect 1907 - 2002</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="700" ind1="1" ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Beron, B.L.</subfield><subfield code="4">oth</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="700" ind1="1" ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Hughes, E.B.</subfield><subfield code="4">oth</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="773" ind1="0" ind2="8"><subfield code="i">in</subfield><subfield code="t">Nuclear Physics, Section B</subfield><subfield code="d">Amsterdam : Elsevier</subfield><subfield code="g">67(1973), 2, Seite 395-412</subfield><subfield code="w">(DE-627)NLEJ177218266</subfield><subfield code="w">(DE-600)1466567-0</subfield><subfield code="x">0550-3213</subfield><subfield code="7">nnns</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="773" ind1="1" ind2="8"><subfield code="g">volume:67</subfield><subfield code="g">year:1973</subfield><subfield code="g">number:2</subfield><subfield code="g">pages:395-412</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="856" ind1="4" ind2="0"><subfield code="u">http://linkinghub.elsevier.com/retrieve/pii/0550-3213(73)90204-6</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="912" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">GBV_USEFLAG_H</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="912" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">ZDB-1-SDJ</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="912" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">GBV_NL_ARTICLE</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="951" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">AR</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="952" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="d">67</subfield><subfield code="j">1973</subfield><subfield code="e">2</subfield><subfield code="h">395-412</subfield></datafield></record></collection>
