They were divided into 6 groups, including a male group and females at proestrus, estrus, metestrus-I, metestrus-II and diestrus. The mice received yeast cells through three different inoculation routes; intravenous, intraperitoneal and intratracheal. In all of the inoculation routes, the clearance of the yeast cells was influenced by the estrous cycle. The female mice at estrus, which might have high blood estrogen levels, showed a marked clearance of the yeast cells from the blood, peritoneal cavity and lungs. These results suggested that non-specific host resistance to the yeast cells was enhanced by estrogen. All female groups inoculated by the three routes showed higher clearance of the yeast cells than the male group. | ||

abstract |
Abstract A relationship between the estrous cycle and non-specific host resistance to Paracoccidioides brasiliensis yeast cells was examined by using both sexes of adult BALB/c mice. |

The female mice at estrus, which might have high blood estrogen levels, showed a marked clearance of the yeast cells from the blood, peritoneal cavity and lungs. These results suggested that non-specific host resistance to the yeast cells was enhanced by estrogen. All female groups inoculated by the three routes showed higher clearance of the yeast cells than the male group.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="533" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="f">Springer Online Journal Archives 1860-2002</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="700" ind1="1" ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Sano, Ayako</subfield><subfield code="4">oth</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="700" ind1="1" ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Miyaji, Makoto</subfield><subfield code="4">oth</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="700" ind1="1" ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Nishimura, Kazuko</subfield><subfield code="4">oth</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="773" ind1="0" ind2="8"><subfield code="i">in</subfield><subfield code="t">Mycopathologia</subfield><subfield code="d">1938</subfield><subfield code="g">119(1992) vom: März, Seite 141-145</subfield><subfield code="w">(DE-627)NLEJ188988939</subfield><subfield code="w">(DE-600)2003647-4</subfield><subfield code="x">1573-0832</subfield><subfield code="7">nnns</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="773" ind1="1" ind2="8"><subfield code="g">volume:119</subfield><subfield code="g">year:1992</subfield><subfield code="g">month:03</subfield><subfield code="g">pages:141-145</subfield><subfield code="g">extent:5</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="856" ind1="4" ind2="0"><subfield code="u">http://dx.doi.org/10.1007/BF00448811</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="912" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">GBV_USEFLAG_U</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="912" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">ZDB-1-SOJ</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="912" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">GBV_NL_ARTICLE</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="951" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">AR</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="952" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="d">119</subfield><subfield code="j">1992</subfield><subfield code="c">3</subfield><subfield code="h">141-145</subfield><subfield code="g">5</subfield></datafield></record></collection>
