HIV-2 antibody testing of blood donors with doubtful immunoblot results for HIV-1
Summary Antibodies against human immunodeficiency virus type-1 (HIV-1) in samples from blood donors are commonly detected by various enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays (ELISA) and by confirmatory tests, e.g., “Western blot” or immunofluorescence tests. Immunoblot reactivity, which is directed only t...

HIV-2 antibody testing of blood donors with doubtful immunoblot results for HIV-1 |
abstract |
Summary Antibodies against human immunodeficiency virus type-1 (HIV-1) in samples from blood donors are commonly detected by various enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays (ELISA) and by confirmatory tests, e.g., “Western blot” or immunofluorescence tests. Immunoblot reactivity, which is directed only towards the HIV-1 core proteins p 18, p 24 and p 55, may represent false-positive reactions. Out of 125,000 blood donations, 140 were repeatably HIV-1 antibody reactive by ELISA; of these, 20 were doubtful positive sera with isolated p 18 and/or p24 bands in the HIV-1 confirmatory assay. Antibodies to HIV-2 are known to cross-react with these HIV-1 core proteins. We therefore assayed the 20 sera by immunofluorescence and immunoblotting for the presence of antibodies to HIV-2. None of these doubtful HIV-1 antibody positive blood donor sera was found to have antibodies to HIV-2. |

None of these doubtful HIV-1 antibody positive blood donor sera was found to have antibodies to HIV-2.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="533" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="f">Springer Online Journal Archives 1860-2002</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="700" ind1="1" ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Knüver-Hopf, J.</subfield><subfield code="4">oth</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="700" ind1="1" ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Mohr, H.</subfield><subfield code="4">oth</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="700" ind1="1" ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Beyer, J.</subfield><subfield code="4">oth</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="700" ind1="1" ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Lambrecht, B.</subfield><subfield code="4">oth</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="700" ind1="1" ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Mix, D.</subfield><subfield code="4">oth</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="700" ind1="1" ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Rübsamen-Waigmann, H.</subfield><subfield code="4">oth</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="700" ind1="1" ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Schmitt, H.</subfield><subfield code="4">oth</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="773" ind1="0" ind2="8"><subfield code="i">in</subfield><subfield code="t">Annals of hematology</subfield><subfield code="d">1955</subfield><subfield code="g">58(1989) vom: März, Seite 155-157</subfield><subfield code="w">(DE-627)NLEJ18898836X</subfield><subfield code="w">(DE-600)1458429-3</subfield><subfield code="x">1432-0584</subfield><subfield code="7">nnns</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="773" ind1="1" ind2="8"><subfield code="g">volume:58</subfield><subfield code="g">year:1989</subfield><subfield code="g">month:03</subfield><subfield code="g">pages:155-157</subfield><subfield code="g">extent:3</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="856" ind1="4" ind2="0"><subfield code="u">http://dx.doi.org/10.1007/BF00320437</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="912" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">GBV_USEFLAG_U</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="912" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">ZDB-1-SOJ</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="912" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">GBV_NL_ARTICLE</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="951" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">AR</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="952" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="d">58</subfield><subfield code="j">1989</subfield><subfield code="c">3</subfield><subfield code="h">155-157</subfield><subfield code="g">3</subfield></datafield></record></collection>
