Rapid, extensive and reversible vacuolation of Schizosaccharomyces pombe induced by amphotericin B
Abstract The fission yeast Schizosaccharomyces pombe has no large vacuoles under normal growth conditions, although budding yeasts usually have large central vacuoles. The minimum inhibitory concentration of amphotericin B to S. pombe was 0.5 μg ml−1; treatment with 0.2 μg ml−1 for 20 min induced ra...

Rapid, extensive and reversible vacuolation of Schizosaccharomyces pombe induced by amphotericin B |
abstract |
Abstract The fission yeast Schizosaccharomyces pombe has no large vacuoles under normal growth conditions, although budding yeasts usually have large central vacuoles. The minimum inhibitory concentration of amphotericin B to S. pombe was 0.5 μg ml−1; treatment with 0.2 μg ml−1 for 20 min induced rapid and extensive vacuolation in S. pombe exponential phase cells. Growth rate of the cells with 0.2 μg ml−1 amphotericin B was much reduced for 6 h, showing extensive vacuolation. Vacuolation in itself was not fatal: on removal of the drug, most cells recovered gradually and eventually multiplied. |

The minimum inhibitory concentration of amphotericin B to S. pombe was 0.5 μg ml−1; treatment with 0.2 μg ml−1 for 20 min induced rapid and extensive vacuolation in S. pombe exponential phase cells. Growth rate of the cells with 0.2 μg ml−1 amphotericin B was much reduced for 6 h, showing extensive vacuolation. Vacuolation in itself was not fatal: on removal of the drug, most cells recovered gradually and eventually multiplied.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="533" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="d">2006</subfield><subfield code="f">Blackwell Publishing Journal Backfiles 1879-2005</subfield><subfield code="7">|2006||||||||||</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="4"><subfield code="a">Amphotericin B</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="700" ind1="1" ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Yarita, Kyoko</subfield><subfield code="e">verfasserin</subfield><subfield code="4">aut</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="700" ind1="1" ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Yoshida, Soichi</subfield><subfield code="e">verfasserin</subfield><subfield code="4">aut</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="700" ind1="1" ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Guan, Hong-quan</subfield><subfield code="4">oth</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="700" ind1="1" ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Nishimura, Kazuko</subfield><subfield code="4">oth</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="700" ind1="1" ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Miyaji, Makoto</subfield><subfield code="4">oth</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="773" ind1="0" ind2="8"><subfield code="i">In</subfield><subfield code="a">Federation of European Microbiological Societies ; GKD-ID: 114439X</subfield><subfield code="t">FEMS microbiology letters</subfield><subfield code="d">Oxford [u.a.] : Wiley-Blackwell, 1977</subfield><subfield code="g">108(1993), 3, Seite 0</subfield><subfield code="h">Online-Ressource</subfield><subfield code="w">(DE-627)NLEJ243927053</subfield><subfield code="w">(DE-600)1501716-3</subfield><subfield code="x">1574-6968</subfield><subfield code="7">nnns</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="773" ind1="1" ind2="8"><subfield code="g">volume:108</subfield><subfield code="g">year:1993</subfield><subfield code="g">number:3</subfield><subfield code="g">pages:0</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="856" ind1="4" ind2="0"><subfield code="u">http://dx.doi.org/10.1111/j.1574-6968.1993.tb06113.x</subfield><subfield code="q">text/html</subfield><subfield code="x">Verlag</subfield><subfield code="z">Deutschlandweit zugänglich</subfield><subfield code="3">Volltext</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="912" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">GBV_USEFLAG_U</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="912" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">ZDB-1-DJB</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="912" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">GBV_NL_ARTICLE</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="951" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">AR</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="952" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="d">108</subfield><subfield code="j">1993</subfield><subfield code="e">3</subfield><subfield code="h">0</subfield></datafield></record></collection>
