520 | |a Combined examination of p27Kip1, p21Waf1/Cip1 and p53 expression allows precise estimation of prognosis in patients with gastric carcinoma Aims: In order to estimate the prognostic values of p27Kip1, p21Waf1/Cip1, and p53, alone and in combination, we investigated immunohistochemically the expression of p27Kip1, p21Waf1/Cip1, and p53 proteins in gastric carcinomas. Methods and results: The expression of p27Kip1, p21Waf1/Cip1, and p53 was immunohistochemically examined in 140 gastric carcinomas. Positive expression of p27Kip1 and p21Waf1/Cip1 correlated significantly with a favourable prognosis (P < 0.05), whereas, positive expression of p53 tended to correlate with poor prognosis. Multivariate survival analysis revealed that TNM stage of tumour (P < 0.001), lymph node state (P=0.005), and p27Kip1 expression (P=0.006) were independent prognostic factors. A striking stratification of mortality rate was found when patients were divided into four groups according to the expression of p21Waf1/Cip1 and p27Kip1. The mortality rate was higher in patients with both p21Waf1/Cip1- and p27Kip1-negative gastric carcinoma than in patients with one or both positive carcinomas (P < 0.01). In addition, if the four p21Waf1/Cip1/p27Kip1 groups were compared based on p53 status, p53+ cases tended to have a higher mortality rate than p53- cases. Conclusion: Our results suggest that low expression of both p27Kip1 and p21Waf1/Cip1 could be useful as markers of poorer prognosis, and the combined examination of p27Kip1, p21Waf1/Cip1 and p53 expression allows reliable estimation of prognosis for patients with gastric carcinoma. | ||

The mortality rate was higher in patients with both p21Waf1/Cip1- and p27Kip1-negative gastric carcinoma than in patients with one or both positive carcinomas (P < 0.01). In addition, if the four p21Waf1/Cip1/p27Kip1 groups were compared based on p53 status, p53+ cases tended to have a higher mortality rate than p53- cases. Conclusion: Our results suggest that low expression of both p27Kip1 and p21Waf1/Cip1 could be useful as markers of poorer prognosis, and the combined examination of p27Kip1, p21Waf1/Cip1 and p53 expression allows reliable estimation of prognosis for patients with gastric carcinoma.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="533" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="d">2001</subfield><subfield code="f">Blackwell Publishing Journal Backfiles 1879-2005</subfield><subfield code="7">|2001||||||||||</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="4"><subfield code="a">gastric carcinoma</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="700" ind1="1" ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Kawauchi, S</subfield><subfield code="e">verfasserin</subfield><subfield code="4">aut</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="700" ind1="1" ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Oga, A</subfield><subfield code="e">verfasserin</subfield><subfield code="4">aut</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="700" ind1="1" ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Suehiro, Y</subfield><subfield code="4">oth</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="700" ind1="1" ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Tsushimi, K</subfield><subfield code="4">oth</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="700" ind1="1" ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Tsushimi, M</subfield><subfield code="4">oth</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="700" ind1="1" ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Sasaki, K</subfield><subfield code="4">oth</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="773" ind1="0" ind2="8"><subfield code="i">In</subfield><subfield code="t">Histopathology</subfield><subfield code="d">Oxford [u.a.] : Wiley-Blackwell, 1977</subfield><subfield code="g">39(2001), 6, Seite 0</subfield><subfield code="h">Online-Ressource</subfield><subfield code="w">(DE-627)NLEJ243927045</subfield><subfield code="w">(DE-600)2006447-0</subfield><subfield code="x">1365-2559</subfield><subfield code="7">nnns</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="773" ind1="1" ind2="8"><subfield code="g">volume:39</subfield><subfield code="g">year:2001</subfield><subfield code="g">number:6</subfield><subfield code="g">pages:0</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="856" ind1="4" ind2="0"><subfield code="u">http://dx.doi.org/10.1046/j.1365-2559.2001.01283.x</subfield><subfield code="q">text/html</subfield><subfield code="x">Verlag</subfield><subfield code="z">Deutschlandweit zugänglich</subfield><subfield code="3">Volltext</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="912" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">GBV_USEFLAG_U</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="912" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">ZDB-1-DJB</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="912" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">GBV_NL_ARTICLE</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="951" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">AR</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="952" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="d">39</subfield><subfield code="j">2001</subfield><subfield code="e">6</subfield><subfield code="h">0</subfield></datafield></record></collection>

abstract |
Combined examination of p27Kip1, p21Waf1/Cip1 and p53 expression allows precise estimation of prognosis in patients with gastric carcinoma Aims: In order to estimate the prognostic values of p27Kip1, p21Waf1/Cip1, and p53, alone and in combination, we investigated immunohistochemically the expression of p27Kip1, p21Waf1/Cip1, and p53 proteins in gastric carcinomas. |
