Fabrication of Machinable Silicon Carbide-Boron Nitride Ceramic Nanocomposites
SiC/BN nanocomposite powders with the microstructure of micrometer-sized SiC particles coated with nanometer-sized BN particles were prepared via a chemical reaction, which used a mixture of boric acid (H3BO3) and urea (CO(NH2)2) as reactants coated on the surface of the SiC particles to react under...

Fabrication of Machinable Silicon Carbide-Boron Nitride Ceramic Nanocomposites |
abstract |
SiC/BN nanocomposite powders with the microstructure of micrometer-sized SiC particles coated with nanometer-sized BN particles were prepared via a chemical reaction, which used a mixture of boric acid (H3BO3) and urea (CO(NH2)2) as reactants coated on the surface of the SiC particles to react under a nitrogen-gas atmosphere. The results of XRD, TEM, and SAED studies showed that the coating layer (BN) was composed mostly of amorphous and nanometer-sized BN particles at the reaction temperature of 850°C. When the nanocomposite powders were hot-pressed at 1850°C, machinable SiC/BN ceramic nanocomposites with fine grain size and homogeneous microstructure were fabricated. The composite that contained 20 wt% BN exhibited high strength (the three-point bending strength was 588.4 ± 26.8 MPa) and excellent machinability. |

The results of XRD, TEM, and SAED studies showed that the coating layer (BN) was composed mostly of amorphous and nanometer-sized BN particles at the reaction temperature of 850°C. When the nanocomposite powders were hot-pressed at 1850°C, machinable SiC/BN ceramic nanocomposites with fine grain size and homogeneous microstructure were fabricated. The composite that contained 20 wt% BN exhibited high strength (the three-point bending strength was 588.4 ± 26.8 MPa) and excellent machinability.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="533" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="d">2004</subfield><subfield code="f">Blackwell Publishing Journal Backfiles 1879-2005</subfield><subfield code="7">|2004||||||||||</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="4"><subfield code="a">boron nitride</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="700" ind1="1" ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Qiao, Guanjun</subfield><subfield code="e">verfasserin</subfield><subfield code="4">aut</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="700" ind1="1" ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Jin, Zhihao</subfield><subfield code="e">verfasserin</subfield><subfield code="4">aut</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="773" ind1="0" ind2="8"><subfield code="i">In</subfield><subfield code="a">American Ceramic Society ; GKD-ID: 6113X</subfield><subfield code="t">Journal of the American Ceramic Society</subfield><subfield code="d">Oxford [u.a.] : Wiley-Blackwell, 1918</subfield><subfield code="g">87(2004), 4, Seite 0</subfield><subfield code="h">Online-Ressource</subfield><subfield code="w">(DE-627)NLEJ243927835</subfield><subfield code="w">(DE-600)2008170-4</subfield><subfield code="x">1551-2916</subfield><subfield code="7">nnns</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="773" ind1="1" ind2="8"><subfield code="g">volume:87</subfield><subfield code="g">year:2004</subfield><subfield code="g">number:4</subfield><subfield code="g">pages:0</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="856" ind1="4" ind2="0"><subfield code="u">http://dx.doi.org/10.1111/j.1551-2916.2004.00565.x</subfield><subfield code="q">text/html</subfield><subfield code="x">Verlag</subfield><subfield code="z">Deutschlandweit zugänglich</subfield><subfield code="3">Volltext</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="912" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">GBV_USEFLAG_U</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="912" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">ZDB-1-DJB</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="912" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">GBV_NL_ARTICLE</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="951" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">AR</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="952" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="d">87</subfield><subfield code="j">2004</subfield><subfield code="e">4</subfield><subfield code="h">0</subfield></datafield></record></collection>
