History is Divine Art: Schelling’s Spätphilosophie as Orthodox Romantic Theology |
abstract |
Schelling’s Spätphilosophie is largely neglected in the non-German academy, and where it is addressed, it is usually minimized or misrepresented. It is the contention of this paper that, rather than a final unremarkable departure from his prior philosophical work, Schelling’s Spätphilosophie, and not Hegel’s work, represents the culmination of German idealism. Further, this culmination puts Schelling more directly in dialogue with Romanticism than his previous work had done, while simultaneously guiding him in what might be termed a broadly orthodox direction. By understanding God as entering into a dynamic relationship with humanity to reveal ultimate truth through the medium of history, Schelling’s Spätphilosophie represents a reworking of his earlier Identity Philosophy in a more intentionally Romantic position to yield a definitive Romantic Theology. |

By understanding God as entering into a dynamic relationship with humanity to reveal ultimate truth through the medium of history, Schelling’s Spätphilosophie represents a reworking of his earlier Identity Philosophy in a more intentionally Romantic position to yield a definitive Romantic Theology.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="533" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="f">Walter de Gruyter Online Zeitschriften</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="4"><subfield code="a">Schelling</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="4"><subfield code="a">Idealism</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="4"><subfield code="a">Romanticism</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="4"><subfield code="a">Spatphilosophie</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="4"><subfield code="a">German Idealism</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="4"><subfield code="a">German Romanticism</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="4"><subfield code="a">philosophy of history</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="773" ind1="0" ind2="8"><subfield code="i">Enthalten in</subfield><subfield code="t">Zeitschrift für neuere Theologiegeschichte</subfield><subfield code="d">Berlin [u.a.] : de Gruyter, 1994</subfield><subfield code="g">22(2015), 1 vom: 3.
