| abstract |
Existing analyses of human rights coverage by the media rarely explain why some human rights violations make headlines while others do not. The objective of this study is to examine how human rights in China are covered in three Chinese and US newspapers, and which factors influence the coverage. The Sino-American relationship and human rights discourses in the countries of origin of the newspapers are important factors explaining the selective nature of the newspaper’s reporting. |
