520 | |a A rain/cloud flagging algorithm for the AltiKa waveform is developed. For this purpose, Mean Power Count between 13 and 40 gates and absolute value of off-nadir angle of Altika waveform are utilized against the backdrop of Liquid Water Content (LWC) > 0.25 kg m −2 . It is observed that parameter is also affected by strong low-level jet. During the validation phase at near simultaneous time scale with 3B42 rainfall over the Indian Ocean, Probability of Detection (POD) and False Alarm Ratio (FAR) of Flag 1 (for LWC > 0.25 kg m −2 ) are found to be 0.76 and 0.19, respectively. Similarly POD and FAR of Flag 0 (for LWC ≤ 0.25 kg m −2 ) are found to be 0.90 and 0.11, respectively. Over the tropics during March 2013 to February 2014, the developed algorithm has detected 6.88% of Flag 1, of which 4.41% are due to rain/cloud, and the remaining 2.48% of flags are primarily due to strong low-level jet. Overall correlation coefficient between occurrence of Flag 1 due to rain/cloud and 3B42 rainfall is found to be 0.76. The developed algorithm is reasonably robust for detecting rain/cloud pixels. | ||

Detection of Rain/Cloud Pixels by Ka-band AltiKa Altimeter over the Tropical Region: Development of a Rain/Cloud Flag Algorithm and its Validation |
abstract |
A rain/cloud flagging algorithm for the AltiKa waveform is developed. |

The developed algorithm is reasonably robust for detecting rain/cloud pixels.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="540" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Nutzungsrecht: Copyright © Taylor & Francis Group, LLC 2015</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="4"><subfield code="a">rain flag</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="4"><subfield code="a">Keywords SARAL/AltiKa altimeter</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="4"><subfield code="a">Ka-band</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="4"><subfield code="a">tropical ocean</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="4"><subfield code="a">backscattering by rain</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="4"><subfield code="a">Algorithms</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="4"><subfield code="a">Geodetics</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="4"><subfield code="a">Correlation analysis</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="4"><subfield code="a">Rain</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="700" ind1="1" ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Sharma, Sanjay</subfield><subfield code="4">oth</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="700" ind1="1" ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Gairola, Rakesh Mohan</subfield><subfield code="4">oth</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="773" ind1="0" ind2="8"><subfield code="i">Enthalten in</subfield><subfield code="t">Marine geodesy</subfield><subfield code="d">New York, NY [u.a.] : Taylor & Francis, 1977</subfield><subfield code="g">38(2015), Seite 86</subfield><subfield code="w">(DE-627)130045721</subfield><subfield code="w">(DE-600)432104-2</subfield><subfield code="w">(DE-576)015585204</subfield><subfield code="x">0149-0419</subfield><subfield code="7">nnns</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="773" ind1="1" ind2="8"><subfield code="g">volume:38</subfield><subfield code="g">year:2015</subfield><subfield code="g">pages:86</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="856" ind1="4" ind2="1"><subfield code="u">http://dx.doi.org/10.1080/01490419.2015.1008158</subfield><subfield code="3">Volltext</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="856" ind1="4" ind2="2"><subfield code="u">http://www.tandfonline.com/doi/abs/10.1080/01490419.2015.1008158</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="856" ind1="4" ind2="2"><subfield code="u">http://search.proquest.com/docview/1724506056</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="912" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">GBV_USEFLAG_A</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="912" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">SYSFLAG_A</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="912" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">GBV_OLC</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="912" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">SSG-OLC-GEO</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="912" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">GBV_ILN_11</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="912" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">GBV_ILN_70</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="912" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">GBV_ILN_601</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="936" ind1="b" ind2="k"><subfield code="a">38.73</subfield><subfield code="q">AVZ</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="936" ind1="b" ind2="k"><subfield code="a">38.90</subfield><subfield code="q">AVZ</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="936" ind1="b" ind2="k"><subfield code="a">74.30</subfield><subfield code="q">AVZ</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="951" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">AR</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="952" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="d">38</subfield><subfield code="j">2015</subfield><subfield code="h">86</subfield></datafield></record></collection>
