Preharvest temperature affects chilling injury in dessert bananas during storage
The effect of temperature on chilling injury during fruit growth was studied in a new banana hybrid CIRAD925 in which seasonal variability in chilling susceptibility was observed when fruits were stored at 13 °C. The relationship between the response to chilling (presence/absence) and the temperatur...

520 | |a The effect of temperature on chilling injury during fruit growth was studied in a new banana hybrid CIRAD925 in which seasonal variability in chilling susceptibility was observed when fruits were stored at 13 °C. The relationship between the response to chilling (presence/absence) and the temperature during banana fruit growth was examined with a logistic regression model. An explanatory variable XN , P was defined as the mean temperature during a period, expressed in weeks, which began N week(s) after flowering and lasted P week(s). The model was calibrated with 143 bunches with a green life of 30 ± 5 days and validated with 156 bunches grown in six plots under different growing conditions. Chilling injury was best predicted by the mean temperature during the period beginning 1 week after flowering and lasting 5 weeks (X1,5 ). Above a mean temperature of 24.1 °C in the period concerned, banana fruits had a 95% probability of chilling injury at 13 °C. Below a temperature of 23.4 °C, banana fruits only had a 5% probability of chilling injury. The results provide a tool to predict chilling susceptibility in banana fruit whatever the thermal conditions in tropical regions. © 2015 Society of Chemical Industry. | ||

Preharvest temperature affects chilling injury in dessert bananas during storage |
abstract |
The effect of temperature on chilling injury during fruit growth was studied in a new banana hybrid CIRAD925 in which seasonal variability in chilling susceptibility was observed when fruits were stored at 13 °C. |

The results provide a tool to predict chilling susceptibility in banana fruit whatever the thermal conditions in tropical regions. © 2015 Society of Chemical Industry.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="540" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Nutzungsrecht: © 2015 Society of Chemical Industry</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="540" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">© 2015 Society of Chemical Industry.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="4"><subfield code="a">logistic regression</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="4"><subfield code="a">predictive model</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="4"><subfield code="a">Musa</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="4"><subfield code="a">chilling injury</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="4"><subfield code="a">temperature</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="4"><subfield code="a">Temperature</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="4"><subfield code="a">Cold storage</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="4"><subfield code="a">Food preservation</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="4"><subfield code="a">Bananas</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="700" ind1="1" ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Joannès‐Dumec, Charlène</subfield><subfield code="4">oth</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="700" ind1="1" ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Louisor, Jacques</subfield><subfield code="4">oth</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="700" ind1="1" ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Tixier, Philippe</subfield><subfield code="4">oth</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="700" ind1="1" ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Salmon, Frédéric</subfield><subfield code="4">oth</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="773" ind1="0" ind2="8"><subfield code="i">Enthalten in</subfield><subfield code="t">Journal of the science of food and agriculture</subfield><subfield code="d">Chichester : Wiley, 1950</subfield><subfield code="g">96(2016), 7, Seite 2384-2390</subfield><subfield code="w">(DE-627)129386669</subfield><subfield code="w">(DE-600)184116-6</subfield><subfield code="w">(DE-576)014773287</subfield><subfield code="x">0022-5142</subfield><subfield code="7">nnns</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="773" ind1="1" ind2="8"><subfield code="g">volume:96</subfield><subfield code="g">year:2016</subfield><subfield code="g">number:7</subfield><subfield code="g">pages:2384-2390</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="856" ind1="4" ind2="1"><subfield code="u">http://dx.doi.org/10.1002/jsfa.7354</subfield><subfield code="3">Volltext</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="856" ind1="4" ind2="2"><subfield code="u">http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/jsfa.7354/abstract</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="856" ind1="4" ind2="2"><subfield code="u">http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/26211436</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="856" ind1="4" ind2="2"><subfield code="u">http://search.proquest.com/docview/1780006424</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="912" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">GBV_USEFLAG_A</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="912" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">SYSFLAG_A</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="912" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">GBV_OLC</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="912" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">SSG-OLC-TEC</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="912" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">SSG-OLC-CHE</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="912" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">GBV_ILN_4012</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="912" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">GBV_ILN_4219</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="936" ind1="b" ind2="k"><subfield code="a">58.34</subfield><subfield code="q">AVZ</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="936" ind1="b" ind2="k"><subfield code="a">48.00</subfield><subfield code="q">AVZ</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="951" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">AR</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="952" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="d">96</subfield><subfield code="j">2016</subfield><subfield code="e">7</subfield><subfield code="h">2384-2390</subfield></datafield></record></collection>
