A Test Bench for Studying the Mechanisms of Breakdowns of Insulating Gaps by Short Voltage Pulses
Abstract A test bench for studying the breakdowns of air gaps by voltage pulses of positive and negative polarities with amplitudes of 100–500 kV and rise times of 30–400 ns is described. The diagnostic base makes it possible to monitor the voltage, current, and optical patterns in the modes of stre...

A Test Bench for Studying the Mechanisms of Breakdowns of Insulating Gaps by Short Voltage Pulses |
abstract |
Abstract A test bench for studying the breakdowns of air gaps by voltage pulses of positive and negative polarities with amplitudes of 100–500 kV and rise times of 30–400 ns is described. The diagnostic base makes it possible to monitor the voltage, current, and optical patterns in the modes of streak photography and frame-by-frame registration at both the preionization and main-discharge stages on a common time scale. The experimental potentialities are supplemented with a numerical simulation in two-dimensional geometry. © MAIK “Nauka/Interperiodica” 2003 |
