As the optical pickups get thinner, they become less rigid, and the quality of the readout signals deteriorates due to thermal deformation. We developed a method to design an optical pickup with high reliability even under harsh conditions by using a combination of ray tracing and structural analysis. Design of optical pickups by combining structural analysis and ray tracing |
abstract |
Abstract Recently, the demand for slim optical pickups has been increasing due to the expansion of the laptop PC market. As the optical pickups get thinner, they become less rigid, and the quality of the readout signals deteriorates due to thermal deformation. We developed a method to design an optical pickup with high reliability even under harsh conditions by using a combination of ray tracing and structural analysis. We applied this method to design a current DVD slim pickup, and achieved quality equal to that of half-height pickups. © Springer-Verlag 2006 |
