A Diagrammatic Derivation of the Hermitian Adjoint
Abstract We show that the physical principle, “the adjoint associates to each state a ‘test’ for that state”, fully characterises the Hermitian adjoint for pure quantum theory, therefore providing the adjoint with operational meaning beyond its standard mathematical definition. Moreover, we demonstr...

A Diagrammatic Derivation of the Hermitian Adjoint |
abstract |
Abstract We show that the physical principle, “the adjoint associates to each state a ‘test’ for that state”, fully characterises the Hermitian adjoint for pure quantum theory, therefore providing the adjoint with operational meaning beyond its standard mathematical definition. Moreover, we demonstrate that for general process theories, which all admit a diagrammatic representation, this physical principle induces a diagrammatic reflection operation. © The Author(s) 2017 |

Moreover, we demonstrate that for general process theories, which all admit a diagrammatic representation, this physical principle induces a diagrammatic reflection operation.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="4"><subfield code="a">Hermitian adjoint</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="4"><subfield code="a">Process theories</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="4"><subfield code="a">Categorical quantum mechanics</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="4"><subfield code="a">Daggers</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="700" ind1="1" ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Coecke, Bob</subfield><subfield code="4">aut</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="773" ind1="0" ind2="8"><subfield code="i">Enthalten in</subfield><subfield code="t">Foundations of physics</subfield><subfield code="d">Springer US, 1970</subfield><subfield code="g">47(2017), 9 vom: 15.
