Instability of shear flows of melts of linear polymers with the narrow molecular-weight distribution
Conclusions The method of linear nonequilibrium thermodynamics and theory of DPT can be used to determine the criteria of the loss of stability of the shear flows of the metals of the linear polymers with the narrow MWD.The shear strain rates which correspond (in theory of DPT) to the center of the...

520 | |a Conclusions The method of linear nonequilibrium thermodynamics and theory of DPT can be used to determine the criteria of the loss of stability of the shear flows of the metals of the linear polymers with the narrow MWD.The shear strain rates which correspond (in theory of DPT) to the center of the transition coincide with the critical rates obtained from the criterion ∂2F/∂$ γ^{2} $ = O, whereas the values of the rate of the end of the transition correspond to the values of the critical rate obtained from the criterion ∂2(∂σ)/∂$ γ^{2} $ = O.On the basis of the theory of DPT it was established that the start of the transition is characterized by the appearance of small-scale distortions of the surface in Poiseuille's flow and "interruption" in the experiments in the regime of simple shear flow with a constant strain range; the center of the transition (maximum ∂F/γ) is linked with the "interruption"in experiments with Poiseuille's flow. | ||

Instability of shear flows of melts of linear polymers with the narrow molecular-weight distribution |
abstract |
Conclusions The method of linear nonequilibrium thermodynamics and theory of DPT can be used to determine the criteria of the loss of stability of the shear flows of the metals of the linear polymers with the narrow MWD.The shear strain rates which correspond (in theory of DPT) to the center of the transition coincide with the critical rates obtained from the criterion ∂2F/∂$ γ^{2} $ = O, whereas the values of the rate of the end of the transition correspond to the values of the critical rate obtained from the criterion ∂2(∂σ)/∂$ γ^{2} $ = O.On the basis of the theory of DPT it was established that the start of the transition is characterized by the appearance of small-scale distortions of the surface in Poiseuille's flow and "interruption" in the experiments in the regime of simple shear flow with a constant strain range; the center of the transition (maximum ∂F/γ) is linked with the "interruption"in experiments with Poiseuille's flow. © Plenum Publishing Corporation 1989 |
