The examinations led to the conclusion that only the four lowest lying states 3$ P_{2} $, 3$ P_{1} $, 3$ P_{0} $, 1$ P_{1} $ of the noble gas atoms in the luminescence process are involved. From a practical point of view, the best energy resolution could be reached by Xe. We got a full width at half maximum of 83 eV for boron X-rays (183 eV). Abstract Ar, Ar/$ N_{2} $, Ar/Xe, Kr and Kr/Xe were tested in a spherical gas scintillation counter. The examinations led to the conclusion that only the four lowest lying states 3$ P_{2} $, 3$ P_{1} $, 3$ P_{0} $, 1$ P_{1} $ of the noble gas atoms in the luminescence process are involved. From a practical point of view, the best energy resolution could be reached by Xe. We got a full width at half maximum of 83 eV for boron X-rays (183 eV). © 1946 – 2014: Verlag der Zeitschrift für Naturforschung |
