Abstract Glucagon-like peptide 1 (GLP-1) is produced by intestinal L-cells, augments insulin secretion and plays an important role in glucose homeostasis. Enhancing endogenous GLP-1 secretion improves glycemic control in patients with type 2 diabetes. However, it is not clear how a change in L-cell number could contribute to circulating GLP-1 levels in physiological conditions and in type 2 diabetes. |
