This study investigated the relationship of the nutritional status of field populations of overwintering adults with the airborne pollen count of Japanese cedar, which served as a proxy for cone-bearing by Japanese cedars, based on data gathered from 2000 to 2010 in Akita Prefecture, northern Japan. The nutritional level and airborne pollen counts varied significantly over the 11 years considered. There was a significant correlation between pollen count and the nutritional level of adults of each sex. These results suggest that Japanese cedar cones serve as an important nutritional source for the overwintering adults of H. halys as they prepare for overwintering. | ||

This study investigated the relationship of the nutritional status of field populations of overwintering adults with the airborne pollen count of Japanese cedar, which served as a proxy for cone-bearing by Japanese cedars, based on data gathered from 2000 to 2010 in Akita Prefecture, northern Japan. The nutritional level and airborne pollen counts varied significantly over the 11 years considered. There was a significant correlation between pollen count and the nutritional level of adults of each sex. These results suggest that Japanese cedar cones serve as an important nutritional source for the overwintering adults of H. halys as they prepare for overwintering. This study investigated the relationship of the nutritional status of field populations of overwintering adults with the airborne pollen count of Japanese cedar, which served as a proxy for cone-bearing by Japanese cedars, based on data gathered from 2000 to 2010 in Akita Prefecture, northern Japan. The nutritional level and airborne pollen counts varied significantly over the 11 years considered. There was a significant correlation between pollen count and the nutritional level of adults of each sex. These results suggest that Japanese cedar cones serve as an important nutritional source for the overwintering adults of H. halys as they prepare for overwintering. © The Japanese Society of Applied Entomology and Zoology 2014 |
