The disease is characterised by recurrent infections in childhood that require prolonged courses of antimicrobial therapy. Adjunctive therapy with interferon-γ has been shown to reduce the frequency and severity of infections. Combined use of daily prophylactic antibiotics and thrice weekly therapy with interferon-γ is an effective and well tolerated treatment that reduces the risk of serious infection.
