520 | |a Abstract The proper selection of varieties for different agro-climatic zones is very essential for obtaining good yield and quality of guava. Thus, evaluation of various commercial guava cultivars for cultivation in Jammu region is of utmost importance. The study revealed highest tree height, stock girth, scion girth and tree volume in Allahabad Safeda, followed by L-49; while lowest stock girth, scion girth and tree volume was in Lalit. L-49 was first to flower, while the duration of flowering was longer in Allahabad Safeda, followed by L-49 and shortest in Lalit and Pant Prabhat. L-49 was superior to all other cultivars in terms of yield attributes as it registered highest fruit yield, fruit set with lowest fruit drop. Among the various physical characters studied, fruit weight and fruit volume was highest in L-49, while Allahabad Safeda produced biggest size fruit. However, specific gravity was highest in Hisar Safeda. Highest numbers of seeds per fruit were observed in Arka Amulya, followed by Pant Prabhat, whereas lowest seed number was observed in Lalit. | ||

Thus, evaluation of various commercial guava cultivars for cultivation in Jammu region is of utmost importance. The study revealed highest tree height, stock girth, scion girth and tree volume in Allahabad Safeda, followed by L-49; while lowest stock girth, scion girth and tree volume was in Lalit. L-49 was first to flower, while the duration of flowering was longer in Allahabad Safeda, followed by L-49 and shortest in Lalit and Pant Prabhat. L-49 was superior to all other cultivars in terms of yield attributes as it registered highest fruit yield, fruit set with lowest fruit drop. Among the various physical characters studied, fruit weight and fruit volume was highest in L-49, while Allahabad Safeda produced biggest size fruit. However, specific gravity was highest in Hisar Safeda. Highest numbers of seeds per fruit were observed in Arka Amulya, followed by Pant Prabhat, whereas lowest seed number was observed in Lalit. Abstract The proper selection of varieties for different agro-climatic zones is very essential for obtaining good yield and quality of guava. Thus, evaluation of various commercial guava cultivars for cultivation in Jammu region is of utmost importance. The study revealed highest tree height, stock girth, scion girth and tree volume in Allahabad Safeda, followed by L-49; while lowest stock girth, scion girth and tree volume was in Lalit. L-49 was first to flower, while the duration of flowering was longer in Allahabad Safeda, followed by L-49 and shortest in Lalit and Pant Prabhat. L-49 was superior to all other cultivars in terms of yield attributes as it registered highest fruit yield, fruit set with lowest fruit drop. Among the various physical characters studied, fruit weight and fruit volume was highest in L-49, while Allahabad Safeda produced biggest size fruit. However, specific gravity was highest in Hisar Safeda. Highest numbers of seeds per fruit were observed in Arka Amulya, followed by Pant Prabhat, whereas lowest seed number was observed in Lalit. © Indian Society for Plant Physiology 2014 |

L-49 was superior to all other cultivars in terms of yield attributes as it registered highest fruit yield, fruit set with lowest fruit drop. Among the various physical characters studied, fruit weight and fruit volume was highest in L-49, while Allahabad Safeda produced biggest size fruit. However, specific gravity was highest in Hisar Safeda.
