The oblique effect: Interactions with visual persistence and spatial configuration
Abstract Experiment 1 measured the perceived duration of 50-msec exposures of vertical, horizontal, 135-deg, and 45-deg line segments and diamonds and squares formed from these lines. The oblique lines generated longer estimates of visual persistence than the other stimuli did. Experiment 2 replicat...

Abstract Experiment 1 measured the perceived duration of 50-msec exposures of vertical, horizontal, 135-deg, and 45-deg line segments and diamonds and squares formed from these lines. The oblique lines generated longer estimates of visual persistence than the other stimuli did. Experiment 2 replicated these results for stimulus durations of 50–500 msec. Also, parallel persistence by stimulus duration functions were found, indicating a cortical locus for these effects. The results are discussed in light of current theories of visual persistence and the oblique effect. © The Psychonomic Society, Inc. 1982 |

The oblique lines generated longer estimates of visual persistence than the other stimuli did. Experiment 2 replicated these results for stimulus durations of 50–500 msec. Also, parallel persistence by stimulus duration functions were found, indicating a cortical locus for these effects. The results are discussed in light of current theories of visual persistence and the oblique effect.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="4"><subfield code="a">Spatial Frequency</subfield><subfield code="7">(dpeaa)DE-He213</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="4"><subfield code="a">Vision Research</subfield><subfield code="7">(dpeaa)DE-He213</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="4"><subfield code="a">Spatial Configuration</subfield><subfield code="7">(dpeaa)DE-He213</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="4"><subfield code="a">Simple Reaction Time</subfield><subfield code="7">(dpeaa)DE-He213</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="4"><subfield code="a">Oblique Line</subfield><subfield code="7">(dpeaa)DE-He213</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="700" ind1="1" ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Meyer, Glenn E.</subfield><subfield code="4">aut</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="773" ind1="0" ind2="8"><subfield code="i">Enthalten in</subfield><subfield code="t">Bulletin of the Psychonomic Society</subfield><subfield code="d">Springer-Verlag, 1973</subfield><subfield code="g">19(1982), 6 vom: Juni, Seite 347-350</subfield><subfield code="w">(DE-627)SPR037022717</subfield><subfield code="7">nnns</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="773" ind1="1" ind2="8"><subfield code="g">volume:19</subfield><subfield code="g">year:1982</subfield><subfield code="g">number:6</subfield><subfield code="g">month:06</subfield><subfield code="g">pages:347-350</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="856" ind1="4" ind2="0"><subfield code="u">https://dx.doi.org/10.3758/BF03330278</subfield><subfield code="z">lizenzpflichtig</subfield><subfield code="3">Volltext</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="912" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">GBV_USEFLAG_A</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="912" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">SYSFLAG_A</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="912" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">GBV_SPRINGER</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="951" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">AR</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="952" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="d">19</subfield><subfield code="j">1982</subfield><subfield code="e">6</subfield><subfield code="c">06</subfield><subfield code="h">347-350</subfield></datafield></record></collection>
